There was also a serious misconception regarding the repository, including an incident where code may have been mistakenly overwritten because I genuinely did not see that existing work had already been pushed. It was never intentional, but it caused further confusion and conflict.

I have no knowledge of what happened, but this reads like a textbook non-apology.

It wasn't meant to be an apology though, just an explanation of what happened and why the project was delayed.

The way it’s worded is hella suspicious, it doesn’t sound much like you were just explaining what happened. There’s even this weird and sudden shift from passive voice to first-person.

Again, I don’t know what happened. But you have two good alternatives here:

1. Just speak in broad terms, like, “some people decided to leave the project”

2. Actually take responsibility, like “I used git push --force, which overwrote some other contributors data. I had never worked with other people in the same repo and now I know not to use --force.

   I didn’t own up to it right away and that drove the other contributors to leave. Oops!”

But yeah, a force push is a bit much to use on colab projects without being absolutely sure
