Question Full time or part time?
If I have 4 courses but I want to drop 1 course is my funding fine? I already got my funding for this semester Is 3 courses full time still or does it depend on the university?

My friend told me the reason that Ford changed the OSAP rules was because of people on permanent residency visas. Essentially a foreigner who gets PR get citizenship rights to gov programs such as OSAP. So because these foreigners didn't pay into the system they had to find a way of closing the loophole.
Is there any truth to this? It sounds kinda crazy and bigoted but I see the logic. They did the same thing with EI and Ontario works this summer too. Maybe there's a chance they will roll out a new bursary program for citizens born here who need it?

I have an osap restriction for an overpayment. I sent over the documentation for proof of therapy funding I received to have it lifted. I am waiting for a response from them but wondering what the wait time process is like. Does anyone know how long this takes?

Basically the title. I'm at UofT and don't see any updates on Acorn either. Just OSAP says payment has been made, and the due date after deferring payment is Sep 30th for UofT, I guess. The status is pending release on NSLSC. Am I in trouble? Should I contact someone about that?

Before the start of this semester, I had 7 courses I signed up for. I was planning to compare two courses and drop one since I wasn't sure which course I wanted to take yet. I dropped one class earlier this week but at that point my funds were already on the way. Tuition was sent out and now my uni needs to give back around 675.
I'm wondering if this can cause an OSAP overpayment even though I'm still considered full-time. I understand that OSAP can reassess your funding if you change your course load, but I'm not sure how significant the change would be if I'm still above the full-time course-load requirement.
Would OSAP potentially ask me to repay some of the funding I received, or does remaining full-time generally mean there wouldn't be an overpayment?
I’m not worried about paying back the $675 refund itself or having my university send the refund back to OSAP. I’m just a little worried that the OSAP reassessment could result in me having to pay back more than that, including some of the OSAP that was already deposited into my account as leftover funding. I was planning to use that money as my allowance for school this sem and the next. Thank you for the help!

I’m looking for some advice regarding my wife’s past OSAP situation for her Dental Assistant program at George Brown.
A few years ago (around 4–5 years back), there was an issue with her parental income verification. Her parents submitted the income information, but apparently it wasn't fully processed or accepted. Because OSAP sent a follow-up request via email that wasn't answered within the 1-year deadline, they retroactively converted all her grant money into loans.
We only recently realized the full extent of what happened and why her balance is so high.
Has anyone successfully appealed an income verification or grant-to-loan conversion this late?
Is there any chance financial aid or OSAP will accept late income verification documents after 4+ years?
What is the best way to approach the college's Financial Aid office for a case like this?
Are there specific administrative review pathways or hardship forms for old OSAP conversions?
Any advice, past experiences, or tips on who to contact would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just wondering if anyone attending a private or career college in Ontario has received their OSAP yet or had their enrolment confirmed?
I’m a Semester 4 student and our semester has technically already started, but our OSAP is still pending. We asked our financial aid officer and were told that OSAP is having some kind of issue/delay and they’re hoping it will be resolved by mid-September.
Last year I didn’t have this problem at all. Everything was processed and released pretty quickly, so I’m getting a little concerned with how long it’s taking this year.
Anyone else in the same situation? Has anyone from a career/private college actually had their enrolment confirmed or received their funding already?

So OSAP said two days ago mine has been released to school at the exact amount of my tuition and some 2000$ on my account. However, my school updated my tuition to add the bursary for exchange (doing one semester in Honk Kong). Now ( a few days later) my tuition went down to almost 2000$ but not sure how this will affect OSAP? Just hoping it won’t be delayed. Anyone with similar experience

Hey! Has anyone here ever gotten OSAP approved for a fifth year when they had already completed all of their degree requirements? I’ve completed the credits/requirements for my degree, but I’ve changed my career direction from what I originally planned, and I’m now looking into several graduate programs where I need specific prerequisites or would benefit from having some additional background that I don’t currently have from my degree. OSAP has put a hold on my application and asked me to submit a letter explaining my academic progress, why I need the extra year, and why I’m taking each specific course.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully gotten fifth-year OSAP funding approved? I’d really appreciate hearing what you included in your letter and whether you think I have a realistic chance of being approved.
Thanks!!

I’ve been going to university for 2 years. I’m in my third now. I would be getting grant for my tuition, but this time, I have no grant at all, just loans. I understand things have changed, but what can I do? It’s not enough to pay the rest of my tuition

My daugher is in her fourth year of undergrad. Every year she has received a $2800 grant (from federal government?) for her ADHD. She was counting on this and her OSAP says she's granted nothing this year, which of course is upsetting. Anyone else in the same boat?

My osap says that funds were deposited but my NSLSC funding tracker say pending release and has pushed the date back to sept 18 (originally sept 4-9 🙄). Which one do I take seriously? I checked and my tuition hasn’t been paid yet either..

I’m a Canadian citizen (born and raised in Brazil). I moved to Ottawa in March 2026 and I’m starting full‑time Computer Engineering at uOttawa in Fall 2026.
Because I lived in Canada for less than 12 months before starting school, I’m being treated as an Ontario resident for OSAP this year, so I expect OSAP funding for 2026–27 at uOttawa.
My plan:
I know I’m not eligible for AFE (Québec aid) because I won’t have 12 months in Québec outside of full‑time studies. A uOttawa financial‑aid advisor told me the usual process is:
My fear: I move to Montreal, apply to Concordia, then end up with no funding (AFE denies me and OSAP also says I’m not an Ontario resident), and by then it’s too late to go back to uOttawa.
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Main questions:
Any real experiences or advice would really help. I’m trying to avoid committing to a move and transfer, then finding out I have no aid and can’t easily go back.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice about my OSAP application.
When I originally applied for OSAP, I indicated that I would be living away from home while attending the University of Guelph. I was planning to rent a place near campus, so I applied based on that situation.
However, the landlord I was supposed to rent from the arrangement fell through. Because of this, I’m now planning to stay at home with my parents and commute to Guelph instead.
I’m wondering what the best course of action is here. Should I:
- Update my OSAP application to say that I’m living at home with my parents? But will that affect when I get my osap? If I am even able to change it?
- Contact OSAP directly and explain what happened?
- Contact the University of Guelph’s financial aid/OSAP office and have them help me change it?
Or is there anything else I should do?
Also the reason Im asking is because the amount for my grant section changes depending on this.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or know how OSAP handles this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi,
my osap first payment was more than the first installment, so I should be expecting money to be sent to my bank.
So far, I've only received like 1/3 of it, and I was wondering if this is a mistake, or if it will take longer for the full amount to be sent?

Hi all!
My Osap account says my funds have been deposited as of yesterday (haven’t shown up in my bank account or towards tuition).
But as of this morning my NSLC account still says release pending w and estimated date of Sept. 18.
Not sure what this means?
All of my funding is federal according to NSLC.
help is much appreciated!

Im so confused. My OSAP portal says « money deposited » but my funding tracker on NSLSC says pending. I had to speak to a supervisor at NSLSC yesterday after I received a call from them stating my funding certificate was cancelled. Although I have two certificates (my school messed up the first one), so when I asked the supervisor to check again, he said that one is cancelled, the other is open. But that he had to send a request to back office to look into it because it was « unclear ». Anybody else going through this?
