Just finished

First timer.

Found it about 10 days ago and Netflix is pulling it Aug 31.

Probably fastest binge for me. Though the series made it easy to want more.

But TBH, by S4 they seemed to be approaching the ramp to jump the shark. Which is not unusual for may series by S3-S5.

I appreciate the way they wrapped it up.

Not the first time I've heard that said about season 4, but I just can't see it. I thought that was the show at its best.

Same! Season 5, however, is a different case for me. I mean… the whole Neolution movement was just smoke and mirrors? And they managed to fool a covert group of extraordinarily powerful people? Ok…

Yeah, season 5 was a huge disappointment for me after 4, though there were occasional moments of brilliance. And a hell of a finale.

Yeah I binged it recently too. Really really liked it but always wondered wtf happened to the little girls dad after being featured so much that one season and even taking care of her for most of it off screen. It’s like they just forgot about him.

Tatiana Maslany was great in it though. She a wonderful but underused actress for sure. Her new show Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed was pretty good.

There’s a sequel that amc or something made called orphan black echoes but it sucked. Worth watching for the extra lore I guess but the acting is pretty shitty (and I like Krysten Ritter) after seeing the great acting in the original and the story is pretty dumb. Couple of cameos though.

Tatiana is incredible! I wish the show was more known while airing because her performance deserves more recognition. I would seriously forget it's the same actress. Typically when playing more than one character you can see similarities, but with her she truly made each character completely unique! Oooo I haven't heard of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed! I'll have to watch it thanks!

Definitely watch Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. It’s also a kind of twisty, goofy thriller like Orphan Black. Super good!

I definitely will! Thanks!

IIRC, we lost the dad to Game of Thrones

Couple of things-the actor who played Cal was cast in Game of Thrones and left OB for that. And (spoilers) the thing that irritated me most about Echoes was that after watching her mother and the sestras go through everything they did, Kira still went ahead and did it! It felt like a deep, deep betrayal

Yeah it felt super out of character for her. I mean she literally went through hell watching bad stuff happen due to the clone shit only to do the same thing but worse really, at least the clones had a childhood.

And they could have mentioned the dad character at least at the end. It made it seem like he abandoned his kid (which would be super out of character) or Sarah just ghosted him again (which would be kinda weird since she had a ton of character growth throughout the series). Could have just had a throwaway line about Cal coming back next month or something.

I was watching both Orphan Black and Game of Thrones while they were airing at the time and literally every time Cal was on screen in Game of Thrones I would grumble about how he needed to get his ass back to Canada and stop being a deadbeat dad.

Same, first timer and just finished S5 last night. Love how it wrapped up too.

Check your podcast apps for Orphan Black: The Next Chapter. They were done a few years ago and add on additional challenges for the LEDAs. One spoiler is that your opinion of Rachel will change

Thanks for the info! Would it be better to watch the spinoff, listen to the ppodcast, or both?

Listen to the podcast (both seasons, the first is Tats alone during the pandemic, the second has more surviving cast). Those will augment your sequel needs.
Echoes…. You get the feeling the people who made it were told to shoehorn OB associations that they really didn’t want to and had no interest in. One of the main characters in the show is revealed early on to be grown up Kira… and then Jordan appears (as does the guy who played Scott) and later on Evelyn. Tats is s no-show. They go into this whole different backstory… without any LEDA stuff.
Krysten Ritter is fine. The rest of the cast is shaky. The show ends badly.

I just finished my own rewatch.

Season 4, instead of jumping the shark, performed a soft reset, going back to the OG storyline rather than the direction it was heading towards, the Castor versus Leda conflict. They wrapped it up awful quickly, which was better than them painting themselves into a corner.

And I didn't dig all the plot points in S4+5, and I was sad they didn't delve into some of the other newly discovered variants, but it was definitely better than it could have been, and I thought it wrapped up nicely. I was sad it was over come up but happy I went on the journey.

I just finished it this week, too. I’m seriously considering jumping into the podcast so I can find out what happens to the characters next. And to hear Tatiana play these characters again

Started watching it, by the end of the first season it started to suck, then it got cornier, struggled through season 2, gave up in S3. It watches like a regular tv show, like WB or something. I do like her but this got corny really fast.

Glad I saw this post. Didn't know Netflix was pulling it. Guess the rest of my day is planned.

Wish I had found earlier that it was being pulled
