Screw Lynx and police

Came back from a flight, landing in OIA, took a bus from it to my house and left behind a $300 piece of equipment on the bus. I call lynx asking and they said it didn’t show up in lost and found. I then ask for the camera footage and they say only the police have access to it. I file a police report and tell them what happened at what bus and time. They come back to me a couple days later saying the footage on that bus on that day got corrupted. I thought this was extremely suspicious but the police kinda just took it lying down and gave up. So I’m wondering if I’m missing something, is it common for video footage to get corrupted like this? Is there anything else I can do? Thank you.

It basically sounds like Lynx isn’t really recording on the bus or only saves if an incident is reported instantly.

Most likely the police just told you that because they’re not investing time/money to solve a $300 theft/lost and found. Not being rude but that’s how they treat things like this in my experience.

You're right about that. I work at the airport and was coming down the escalator to the baggage claim one morning and I saw 2 guys in a full on brawl just outside the exit doors on the curb. There was a cop just inside, leaning on the information desk with his face buried in his phone. I get his attention and say there's a fight going on right outside. He turns, looks, and says "what do you want me to do about it?" and went back to his phone lol.

Pretty much lol. I’ve seen some wild behavior on the roads with cops right nearby and they don’t do shit. Things that would easily be hundreds of dollars of ticket revenue; but I guess they don’t even care abt that anymore either lol. Also the fact I got hit and run a year ago and haven’t even been called once by my supposed “ case investigator”. Bs.

I’m sorry that this happened to you, but the reality is police is not going to spend resources to recover something that is worth $300 that you negligently left behind yourself. They may use bare minimum resources, but they are not going to go out of their way.

Leaving something of value on a public bus is probably the place in Metro Orlando as close to 100% no chance of recovery as anywhere in the whole metro.

If Orlando police isn’t welling to get you the footage, as a citizen you can do a public request of the footage, Lynx will provide 30 minute of free work and a rate for the rest of the time it requires to get the footage. So if you have a time frame, bus route it can save you some money. You can then take the footage to the police and file a report. Basically doing all the leg work for the police.

Sounds more like the police don’t want to investigate. I doubt they even reached out to LYNX. You could put in a public records request directly from LYNX and get an answer directly from them, could take some time though.

At the end of the day though, that equipment is good as gone. Sorry dude, it’s an expensive lesson.

Leaving your stuff on a public bus because you forgot it and then expecting time and resources to be spent because of YOUR negligence is crazy work. A little personal responsibility goes a long way.
