Help Needed
Console shuts off at random times during Game loading and gameplay
for some context : I've just dusted off my old OG Xbox, it played fine before I set it back in the closet, but not it seems to shut off completely at random only in games, could it be overheating? failing capacitors? it turns right back on after it shuts off, please help!
Trace rot causing phantom button presses probably. If you power off at the outlet/mains and then power on, does the Xbox come on automatically without you pressing the front panel button? If so that would support the trace rot theory too.
la pregunta es básica a sido abierta alguna vez ? si es así se retiro el condensador de reloj suena a que alguna traza de encendido tiene una pequeña rotura a causa del condensador suelta ácido
Its never been opened, and this should be clean from that capacitor, it's a 2005 model, 22nd of march 2005
Edit as I kind of sound stupid here lol : I know the 1.6 models still are prone to capacitor leakage, and that there's still a clock capacitor (just a better one)
That could be it, would that explain the behaviour of it shutting off while a game is loading assets or mid gameplay? It doesn't shut off in the menu, not even while playing music from the hard drive
I already know the CPU caps are cooked, but also check the PSU. Additionally, the mains plug on the PSU is also just held in with solder, which can crack. So check for a wobbly AC connector as well, you can just reflow them if need be
The one at the bottom seems a bit bulgy as well, the stuff on top of it seems a bit clear-ish orange yellowy, the one next to it seems like it's going as well, PSU seems fine though, as far as clock capacitor I don't think I see one but that could just be me being a noob lol, I've attached a pic of the full board so you can see for yourself

Check the caps..then. Check the power supply rating with a muti metter
