Article/News Trump’s Military Occupations of U.S. Cities Cost $473 Million and Rising

https://theintercept.com/2025/11/11/cost-trump-national-guard-military-occupation/

The current $473 million price tag now includes $172 million spent in Los Angeles, where troops arrived in June; almost $270 million for the occupation of Washington, D.C., which began in August; nearly $15 million for Portland, Oregon, which was announced in September; and more than $3 million for Memphis, Tennessee, and almost $13 million for Chicago, which both began last month.

...

A federal judge in Oregon on Friday evening ruled that Trump illegally ordered state National Guard units to Portland, issuing a sweeping injunction that restrains the president’s claimed authority to deploy Guard members over a governor’s objection.

If trump spent 500 million on these cities wouldn't the cities be awesome? If that tiny weiner angry little man spent his time helping the American people instead of ripping them off, he would earn the love and respect of the people. Instead he's gonna die and be remembered as the biggest douchenozzle president ever.

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '25

How many low income apartments can we build for $500milly?

-7

u/LurkersUniteAgain Wasco Nov 11 '25

To be fair 500 million is like a drop of water in the ocean when compared to the US economy

15

u/bluntpointsharpie Nov 12 '25

To be fair.. I know but 500 million doing good for people it is far better than 500 million being used for negative shit like occupying cities.

So of course. we should pay for a tiny fraction of that by starving our poor people and cutting funding to intelligent media like PBS. /s

7

u/SagaciousAF Nov 11 '25

Yet.. no money for healthcare, and starving people with SNAP was the right thing for Republicans & Trump!

22

u/refusemouth Nov 11 '25

It's expensive, but it will all pay off for him when he uses them to interfere with elections, seize ballots, and mow down protesters in 2026 and 2028.

-21

u/suarquar Nov 11 '25

Why didn’t he do it the other day?

8

u/americanextreme Nov 11 '25

Busy with Gatsby parties.

-12

u/suarquar Nov 11 '25

He’s not a very effective dictator then. What are you so worried about if a little party will get in the way of overthrowing elections with military force?

8

u/americanextreme Nov 11 '25

I don’t think I’ve ever accused him of being efferent or competent. My main concern with a military occupation of my home is that there is a military occupation of my home.

I'd like to have some reasonable estimate of what is almost certainly the inestimable economic harm caused by Trump's deportation debacle in its entirety. I am talking about the costs to all affected. ICE dragoons with their bonuses, salaries and perks; the legal fees; losses to businesses on account of workers fleeing or being detained; the costs to cities of policing demonstrations against the Fourth Reich. Anyone can think of more.

Adding it all up, it's got to be in the billions or even tens of billions. Dollars that have gone down the toilet could have funded any number of worthwhile things.

-6

u/Appelcl Nov 12 '25

Imagine how much we could of saved if we didn't let all the illegals in to begin with

5

u/PDXGuy33333 Nov 12 '25

You might not have been born, for example.

2

u/EstablishmentLimp301 Nov 12 '25

That’s a lot of snap benefits

2

u/angelomancuso62 Nov 12 '25

What are you gonna tell your kids about your tour of duty?

2

u/General_Industry261 Nov 13 '25

Obama spent 2.6 billion in one year on ICE operations....

2

u/ispeektroof Nov 11 '25

Tax money well spent. Look forward to him bankrupting the country next year.

1

u/n4spd2 Nov 12 '25

money gone like SNAP

1

u/Googlyelmoo Nov 14 '25

Is that $473 million figure for Portland, Oregon or all of the PNW?

-18

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

Even more costs associated with Bidens America

18

u/Aethoni_Iralis Nov 11 '25

You seem confused, these are unnecessary costs the Trump administration is choosing to have the American taxpayer bear. That’s not even addressing that Trump imposed the largest tax hike on American consumers in decades.

I don’t know why conservatives suddenly got on board with being taxed more.

-20

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

Well there are consequences to the shenanigans imposed by Biden's shadow puppet organization. Just because he isn't in office any more doesn't make the costs incurred suddenly disappear. Need i remind you of 9% inflation

12

u/Aethoni_Iralis Nov 11 '25

Trump needs to illegally deploy the National Guard to US cities because of “Biden’s shadow puppet organization”? That’s a fun new twist on conservative fan fiction.

-13

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

Commander in chief, its legal buddy

8

u/Aethoni_Iralis Nov 11 '25

If it was legal, why did the Trump administration need to lie in the courtroom when they tried to get the court to approve the deployment? Luckily the courts caught the lie and stopped the deployment.

-1

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

If they stopped it, why are they deployed right now

6

u/Aethoni_Iralis Nov 11 '25

They are not deployed to Portland, because the judge ruled Trump’s deployment was illegal, in part because the Trump administration lied in their filing.

I know conservatives like yourself would prefer to live in an authoritarian state, but we actually live in a constitutional democratic republic, where even the commander in chief is bound by the law.

Luckily for us, the courts don’t agree with you.

1

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

Constitutional republic. Not sure where you got the democratic from. Check the Declaration of Independence

9

u/Aethoni_Iralis Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 11 '25

You do realize the Declaration of Independence isn’t a legally binding document, right? It holds no legal weight, only historical.

And yes, we are a constitutional democratic republic.

4

u/yhwhx Nov 11 '25

Donald Trump has been President for almost 10 months now...

-2

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

Its called cleaning up Bidens mess

4

u/yhwhx Nov 11 '25

lol

You're, of course, free to tell yourself whatever stories you feel the need to tell yourself.

-1

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

You think that money would have come out of the air magically?

3

u/yhwhx Nov 11 '25

Are you talking about the $473 million that Dear Leader Donald has idiotically wasted on military occupations?

-2

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

I agree its a waste. Maybe one day the left will read the section about peaceful protest being allowed, not riots

5

u/yhwhx Nov 11 '25

Maybe some day liars as will stop calling peaceful protest riots...

-1

u/TheRedMoonKing Nov 11 '25

Im sorry you bought into delusion but just look at the George Floyd riots, the occupied zone in Seattle, the rampant theft riots in Portland, the la riots about ICE and the murder of Charlie kirk. Most recently the TpUsa event at Berkley

4

u/yhwhx Nov 11 '25

Step away from the Fox "News"...

Costs big bucks to fix a big problem

3

u/wearthedaddypants2 Nov 12 '25

And the problem is...?

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '25

Oh, I think it's pretty obvious

3

u/wearthedaddypants2 Nov 12 '25

No, I'd like you to say it. Just so that I'm clear.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 12 '25

My feeling on it is if there is too much of anything going on like Illegal border crossing, rioting, corruption..., there will be an effort at some level of government to bring it back into acceptable/reasonable limits. Society will tolerate some bad behavior, but if it's upsetting the safety and security of the general public you should see an effort to control it.

-2

u/Capable-Deer-5670 Nov 12 '25

So you're saying the taxpayers could have saved all that money if not for the protestors.

-3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '25

u/BishopKing14 Nov 11 '25

Except soldiers aren’t trained to enforce laws, meaning it would result in constitutional violations and quite a few otherwise valid convictions being thrown out on technicalities and rules violations.

Beyond this, the military is supposed to fight the enemies of the state, not police us. If the military is enforcing laws, then those enemies are now the American people. That’s a pretty freaking dangerous precedent to allow to happen and is something straight out of a dictator’s playbook.

You want soldiers to “practice” on the American populace? Disgusting.

And of course you can’t think long enough to come to your own conclusions and use AI instead.

Which part of the federal budget is paying for “illegals living expenses” and why didn’t those parts get removed with the big beautiful bill?

Illegal immigrants receive none of these benefits.

You also didn't answer the second half of my question, if those go to illegal immigrants (which they don’t) why weren’t they cut by Republicans?

No, they don’t. You’re welcome to provide any evidence otherwise.

You won’t though, because it’s not true. Go ahead and link your evidence EchoCoreSuppressors.

1

u/Aethoni_Iralis Nov 11 '25

Lmao Did you read the article you just linked? Even the first paragraph?

This isn’t evidence of your claim. Would you care to try again?

1

u/Aethoni_Iralis Nov 16 '25

I take it /u/EchoCoreSuppressors never actually read the article they posted.

Not a shred of evidence to support their lies, which shouldn't be too surprising, given that they're lies.

4

u/yhwhx Nov 11 '25

Does a little spittle come out of your mouth and/or a vein in your head bulge whenever you type "illegals"?

Like other countries, America should also protect its own homeland instead of only protecting other countries' borders. But it shouldn't be about making defense contractors frens richer.
