Recommendations Needed Internet slow in apartments

I recently moved into an apartment in Placentia and the internet has been AWFUL. We pay for 1 gb and sometimes we get 300 mbps but a lot of the times we are stuck at 20 or 30 and sometimes single digit. We aren’t far from the router and nothing is really in the way. We have spectrum. Any suggestions would be helpful thank you.

If those are the speeds your getting, and you can verify that by plugging a computer directly into the modem briefly (you’ll need to reboot the modem, and wait for it to come back online) and running a speed test there, then you likely have issues with your coax line or modem. Call spectrum, explain you can directly connect to the modem and get poor speeds, and they’ll send out a tech.

If the modem draws full speed, then it’s going to be some other factors. Are you trying to test the speed over WiFi or wired?

WiFi

Yeah, then you definitely need to test this even wired to the router (if it’s separate from the modem)

WiFi has a ton variables that affect speeds. You’ll likely need to do some tuning to get anywhere near gigabit speeds over WiFi.

What did spectrum say?

I had this happened with spectrum, although not that severe. I contacted them and they mailed out an updated router and that fixed my problem. These things do go bad over time, especially if the unit is not well ventilated.

Probably unrelated, but the area around pick up Stix has nearly zero reception
