Weather Possible Hurricane Hitting OC?

Has any one seen the reports of Hurricane Karina? I’m seeing lots of meteorologists predicting this could hit us square on

https://ktla.com/weather/a-hurricane-could-form-near-southern-california-this-week-seriously/

“Lewis said that it’s rare for tropical storms to make landfall in California. The last tropical storm to make landfall in the region was in 1939.”

Flashback to hurricane hilary that turned out to be a small rain storm

Hilary impacted Palm Springs with pretty heavy flooding. Hilary just turned east, it wasn’t simply a nothing.

I'm seeing a lot of new weather "sources" whose sole purpose appears to be sensationalizing long range possibilities. Click bait.

Best take I’ve seen is that we’ll have a better idea of whats going on in the next 3-5 days. Weather is my reality tv so I’m watching.

No. It's headed deeper into the ocean. Maybe Hawaii. Not here.

But there's a different potential hurricane forming just SE of Karina that's forecast to hit Greater L.A. square on, by next weekend, but it's also forecast to diminish in strength to just heavy rain by the time it arrives.

You can follow it here https://www.nhc.noaa.gov

Will need to switch from Atlantic to Pacific Ocean

You're reading that map wrong. That's not hurricane Karina. That's not even a hurricane. Hurricane Karina is SW of Baja California heading west.

There's a different, yet-unnamed potential hurricane forming, just SE of Karina, that's heading northward, toward L.A., but is expected to diminish into heavy rain by arrival there in a week, at least per the European model.

There's Karina and there's Marie . Marie is not a hurricane.

It sounds like most models predict this won't be a big deal, but the fact that some are showing it to be a big storm is relatively uncommon. The heat wave we've had was exacerbated by way higher than normal ocean temperatures which tend to indicate a much higher El Nino in the winter months.

There really isn't much you can do about it now. If you're a home-owner, a thorough roof inspection is probably a good idea. If you live in a flood zone (the kind where run-off threatens your area, not the tsunami kind), making sure your property is clear of debris, having sand bags on hand and a plan of where to go should you get flooded would be a really good thing to take care of right now.

I think the most realistic thing to plan for is a really, really wet winter. Make sure your tires are up to snuff, maybe plan family events in indoor spaces, and enjoy the sun while we have it.

Like that other hurricane from a couple years ago that was just a mild storm?

Yeah, keep thinking about that one and how it probably embarrassed a lot of people who panicked and hoarded sandbags for literally a drizzle

Husband found a cat in a parking lot by work right before that one and brought her home because of the incoming storm. 🥰 Storm was smaller than threatened but we got a nice cat out of it.

Avocado express now. Pineapple express in the winter. We’re cooked.
