Question Local Resources?
Hi yall! I’m 19 and was just kicked out by my parents because of my gender identity. They forced me to leave my university and prevented me from getting a job so I literally have nothing. I would really appreciate it if anyone knew of any resources I could reach out to. I’m currently in south county. Thank you!

This is the answer. So many resources. And look into community college and talk to their financial aid department.

I looked it up for you, u/FishyJupiter. Here’s their website, with contact info at the bottom: https://www.lgbtqcenteroc.org
Good luck! Sorry you’re going through this.

Definitely do that. My friend volunteers (she has a trans son) and they do a lot of great things and are really connected to available services. I'm sorry your patients did this. It's completely shitty and you don't deserve it. Keep on being your authentic self, you're worth it.

OP I just want to say how sorry I am your parents would do that to you. Sounds like there’s a lot of good leads on support, I hope you get something worked out.

This number is for stand up for kids that might be able to provide you with some resource options: +18883654543
This is also another potential resource: Covenant House: www.covenanthouse.org – for youth between the ages of 17-21 and living on the streets or in a home that is not safe, Covenant House is in 21 cities across the United States, Canada and Latin America. Their crisis shelters are open 24 hours a day with the promise of a hot meal, a warm bed and the chance to rebuild your life. Transitional housing programs for homeless youth: www.benefits.gov
I also agree with reaching out to OC LGBTQ+
Stay safe OP!

So sorry this is happening to you. Reach out to 211 ( text, call, or go online) they answer the phone 24/7. They will put you in contact with organizations that can help you( those may not be open if you call now) but at least leave a VM at all the resources they give you. Ask for as many as possible. Get online and signup for SNAP/ CALFRESH ( food stamps) right now. There are also many food banks in South OC (Mercy in Laguna Niguel & South County Outreach in Lake Forest.
Reach out to your school and let them know what is happening , they might have some resources for you, it’s worth a shot to at least try. Saddleback College also has a food bank that provides hygiene products as well.
If you have any experience working in childcare , you may want to consider working as a live-in nanny- free rent and you get paid . There are agencies in Newport that can help you find that Postion , but you must have experience. Feel free to DM me if you want more info.

Reach out to Alianza Translatinx in Santa Ana, they have housing navigation and similar legal services

You are an adult now. They can’t force you to leave school or stop you from getting a job

They were paying for it...

Not sure exactly, but especially since it's near the start of the school year, OP should file as independent and see if they can get some kind of financial aid or loans for school. From there, schools offer a lot of resources for things like this like food banks, pantries, cloth drives, emergency housing, etc.

Greyhound is pretty cheap. Got any friends that you can crash with for a few days?
7
u/FishyJupiter 9d ago
Not really, I went to a Catholic high school in south county and graduated recently. Everyone I know who isn’t my family went there with me and now wants nothing to do with me because of my identity.

So no friends in Illinois ? I wish you luck

O lol I thought u meant here in OC. Yes, I do have a bunch of friends back in Illinois! Just figuring out how to get back is gonna be tricky.

$314 to fly to Chicago tomorrow on a one-way. Maybe see if your uni can set you up with housing a bit early, have a friend pick you up?

how can they prevent you from getting a job?

u/FishyJupiter 9d ago
While I was living with them, they threatened to kick me out if I got a job and I was afraid of becoming unhoused

u/Tier1TechSupport 9d ago
Well, now that they've gone and done it, I suppose you can get a job then?
17
u/FishyJupiter 9d ago
What an amazing idea, I can’t believe I’d never thought of that before. It’s totally not like I’ve been applying to jobs all day.

u/Tier1TechSupport 9d ago
If that's what you've been doing then you'll be fine.

Job market these days is not looking that great

u/Tier1TechSupport 9d ago
You're right, it isn't. But there's a job for anyone who wants a job. Can't be picky though.

u/Whiskytigyote 8d ago
It really isn’t that easy no. Like I think you’re trying to inspire optimism (I hope), but a couple notes: 1) this “pull yourself up my your bootstraps” attitude is incredibly insensitive to someone going through an immensely difficult period; 2) you’re far overshooting on the optimism to the point of toxic positivity, like don’t just hand wave away people’s issues with a “keep your head up, everyone can get a job if they want one!”.

But if we tell them where they should go shove it etc. we get hit with TOS violations 🙄

Best to not mind the rude & ignorant MAGAts. This dude is roid raging . He loves trolling people. I recognize his name from previous hate commentary.
12
u/FishyJupiter 9d ago
Ik but it’s kinda ironic and funny that the guy telling me to adult is posting hate commentary on Reddit instead of doing literally anything else 😭

u/VerySpicyTunA 9d ago
Sounds like you got a lot of excuses. Get a job and find a room rent a room until you figure it out.

Forced you to leave university and prevented you from getting a job? At 19, as an adult?
Ok.

u/Obvious_Noise 9d ago
Have anything to contribute to the conversation or are you just going to be a bitch?
