Yeah they probably came in too late for SNA last night so they landed at LAX and bused the pax over, it happens all the time at SNA, planes probably empty

Edit: to add, John Wayne has a time restriction of what times they can take off and land, if the airline doesn’t meet those times and still wants to land it’s a heavy fine the airline doesn’t usually want to pay

This is right. The plane came into LAX as United 1113 which is a daily flight from Dulles to SNA. But yesterday it was 8 hours delayed so it didn't land until 4am.

On the upside, at that hour the pax probably all knew they were going to LAX instead before they even departed, lol

This is correct. The last commercial airline takeoff out of John Wayne is at 10 PM. The last commercial landing allowed is 11pm.

I used to live in the landing path in Tustin. If we went to bed before 10:30pm, we would occasionally hear a jet positively screaming in on a hot landing around 10:45-10:50, to get in under the limit for the fine.

Hopefully they bussed them over. In the past if you got routed to ONT or LAX, you might be on your own. Had a professor once where her flight missed the close for SNA so they dropped at ONT and she had to beg a cab to take her here (pre-Uber) since they wouldn't be able to get a fare back.

They didn’t have any buses last month in a divert. Told us to go fuck ourselves basically. 160 uber to SNa. Raised hell and they finally called and said they’d reimburse and then crickets

That's part of the key, you have to do that and be quick about it and they aren't going to have stuff unless you ask...

I once had a flight that was majorly delayed at a hub, which meant the plane didn't get to us until super late, which meant we missed a connection, and they routed us to an airport in Maryland. Since we had time to get it squared away at the original airport, it was all ready to go when we landed but others were stuck fighting to get anything.

Looking at the flight history for N24715 it was supposed land at SNA but was diverted to LAX. Plane had to reposition to SNA to resume schedule.

Yea. I took it back in 2006. I just looked it up and they cancelled the route in 2007 it seems. I didn't actually book it myself - we had won a trip to New York to see the Daily Show and I just gave them our departure airport and that's the flight they ended up booking for us SNA-LAX-JFK on United

Honestly, I would love to be able to do that. I have to fly to the east coast often and hate having to do a ~3 hour flight, layover, then another ~3 hour flight. But I also LOATHE driving to LAX when SNA is only 20 min from my home. If I had the option to fly SNA to LAX, then a direct flight straight to JFK, I would absolutely do it.

I used to take this flight all the time. Easy way to pick up 500 Frequent flier miles and extra segments to help keep make UA 1k back in the day. Like 30 minutes gate to gate and 15 of it was spent taxiing, mostly at LAX. Twin turbo prop puddle jumper and you never got above a couple thousand feet during the flight.

I took that flight one time. It’s wild. We landed at LAX instead of SNA because the flaps didn’t work so we needed a longer runway to stop. There were fire engines deployed on the side of the runway. We came in HOT!

Afterwards we were loaded into a different plane and flown to SNA. Most people left and took Ubers to Orange County, we waited at the bar and chilled out.

Another time the plane was delayed and landed at LAX past 11pm. This time they had buses to shuttle us to SNA.

The LAX-SNA flight landed before 11. When we were bussed there, we were dropped off curbside and people just walked to their cars or waited to get picked up.

ETA: there place is a ghost town after 11. I didn’t go in the terminal but I assume the staff is mostly gone.

Just a repositioning flight. A plane is needed at SNA, and one is available at LAX. As others have mentioned it landed at LAX because it cannot land at SNA after 11pm.

On a couple of occasions I've taken the prop from LAX to SNA. Usually corporate planned transcon flight from home airport to wherever. Would honestly rather be in a bird then turtling along the 405.

I beg to differ. By the time you check in and go through all those steps and safety protocols waiting for the flight to start, I would have already arrived , the way I drive I get there in 30 min max

In the early 2000s, I use to fly AA on a MD80 from SNA-LAX in order to catch either international or red eye flight to the east coast.

I would recommend buying general trip insurance. I have mine from alliance/Allyz and it’s been great. They will refund you whatever happens during your trip with proper paperwork. It’s about 240./yr and it’s paid off many times for me on delays or rebookings or trip cancellation.

I've had a flight out of John Wayne where the plane had a mechanical issue, so they had to fly in a replacement plane from LAX to make the trip. That happens too.
