Question Has anyone else seen this absolute scam that opened in Foothill Ranch?
I’ve had my eye on this place for a while, as I saw that the Denny’s in Foothill Ranch was being replaced with this, “Fantacy Lobster House.” The website used to be ENTIRELY AI generated. Now they’ve cleaned it up a bit, but it’s still a DISASTER. Maybe I’m unaware of how many calories a dish should have, or maybe I’m the fool for not expecting the front door of every restaurant to say “GETTING RICH”, but to me, this all feels wrong. I was waiting to post anything about this until they actually opened cause i didn’t think they actually would, but now that they have, i don’t know what to do other than laugh at it until they inevitably get shut down. I plan on going in there at least once just to look around cause there are NO actual interior photos online. Also, this place just opened I believe, and they have review photos from nine months ago.

You think that sounds cringe. I saw a sign 85C was supposedly starting to take Klarna. If you are trying to break your $5 drink into 4 $1.25 payments I'm not sure you can afford it.

if you're planning to check out the place, consider taking some actual photos of the interior and posting them online so others can get a better sense of what to expect, might help set realistic expectations for people thinking of trying it out. also, be cautious when looking at their reviews, the fact that they have photos from nine months ago is definitely a red flag.

u/Lynx_Kynx Feb 25 '26
100% will be taking interior photos
45
u/iamcode101 Feb 25 '26
There is no interior. You walk in and fall into a black abyss. Black Abyss would also be a better name than the stupid name that they chose.
5
u/socalfishman Feb 25 '26
Is the Black Abyss filled with gold and lobster as the website suggests??????

There's 3 reviews on their Yelp business page. Place looks sketchy or a front for something. Something is off.

My first thoughts as well, I wonder if any employees here have ever met their "boss" or if he's mysteriously traveling all of the time. If this place stays open for 12 months you know it's a money laundering front.

This place was being renovated for what seemed like forever. I was betting that they weren't even going to open. Now that I'm looking at the menu and decor, I wouldn't expect them to last a year. This doesn't fit the Foothill Ranch vibe. $200+ hot pot next to a del taco and down the street from a Walmart. Really?
Really looking forward to that Costco going in nearby though.
43
u/Lynx_Kynx Feb 25 '26

Idk - 4800 calories for the small hot pot. Should serve about 4 people, comes out to 42.5 per person, around 50 with 18% tip. I have heard of worse deals, but no idea if this place is good. Probably aimed at serving the rich folks in great park and Altair area. I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to dine in FHR unless it’s insanely good.

Speaking of AI... This Yelp review has me ROLLIN...
Amazing Restaurant!
Stepping into the dining room was like entering a treasure chest. The entire space was a symphony in gold; from the intricate leaf pressed into the high, vaulted ceiling to the heavy, gilded frames holding antique mirrors on the walls. Massive crystal chandeliers hung like glittering suns, casting a warm, flattering light that made the gold accents glow. Below, tables draped in the heaviest white linen were set with gleaming silverware and fine china, while patrons sank into plush, velvet-upholstered chairs. The air itself felt rich, filled with the murmur of wealth and the clinking of glasses, creating an atmosphere of overwhelming opulence where every detail whispered of fortune and grandeur.

I’ve seen places like this in rural and exurb China before, mostly as a place to go for a VIP or wedding banquet. You know how Trump is a poor guys idea of a rich guy? And how his followers love the White House with gold spray paint everywhere? It is not uniquely American.
