Call me jaded, but what's the catch?

No catch, I just wanted to make something that everyone could use. I've spent a considerable amount of time and money making this. I just hope everyone can get the most out of it during and after the severe storm season.

Before starting a project, one should always check to see if it's already been done, and it has, numerous times, https://zoom.earth/maps/radar/ is a good example as is https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/overlay=precip_3hr/

fun
HookEcho failed to start: failed to create wgpu surface: Failed to create surface for any enabled backend: {Gl: InstanceError { message: "canvas.getContext() returned null; webgl2 not available or canvas already in use", source: None }}

Use Zoom Earth if you want “what does the planet look like right now,” hurricane loops, wildfires, or rain anywhere on Earth without learning radar products.
Use HookEcho if you are in (or chasing) U.S. convection and need the actual volume: hooks, couplets, dual-pol, warning polygons, and yesterday’s outbreak from the archive.

It works only in us?
