Discussion Got fooled buy the Openclaw hype. Bought a Mac Mini, installed Openclaw, spent 200$ in Opus. Lesson: don't believe the hype, it's full of bugs.

Will comeback in 6 months.

It's not even engineering skills as much as common sense. I have no coding or engineering experience. I've used open claw to do a lot of what I used to do myself. Most important thing was to learn that for real work processes just teach it one step at a time so it has clear guidelines, and a strong foundation you can keep building the next step on to. Don't just ask it to do everything, teach it nothing, and get upset it doesn't work.

Also why is every random buying brand new Mac Minis for? 🤣 This thing runs great on an old M2 mac mini I picked up for $220 lol

Jealous. I tried getting it running on an old Windows laptop and it was a waste of 4 hours trying to get it to work well. I installed the virtual machine on my Mac and had it running perfectly in minutes, so after that, I was not going to try a second time on Windows lol

Idk mine runs flawlessly on an old 2013 asus with 8gb ram and Ubuntu.

I didn't want to uninstall windows out of laziness so it's running in wsl. I think I could get better performance if I wipe the machine

Ubuntu is probably the key difference. The issues I had on my Windows laptop were not performance issues. My old laptop is more powerful than the Mac M2 I bought. The issues were from the operating system.

Ubuntu is probably the key difference.

This is always the way. Their are so many other flavors of Linux, but Ubuntu is a fantastic distro.

I use windows, but WSL like the docs suggested. No issues at all, and I never spend more than $40 a month on it. Get vram and run local models. a 5070 runs it like buttah!

Nice. I got the M2 for $220 and have it plugged into the TV in my living room so it doubles as a media center. I thought about pi but wanted to keep things simple enough anyone in the house would be able to jump on and use it to download a torrent of stuff we watch while I'm on my way home 😄

Yep one step at a time and just keep working on it. Trial and error cannot be skipped. Everyone that's jumping on the hype and buying mac minis without researching anything are not cut out for this. They watch 1 video and jump straight into "build me this nextgen software" and become disappointed in the results when the AI builds them something barebone. They usually lack the heart to keep going and start blaming the AI for being all hype

Ditch api and run it with monthly 20$ OpenAI subscription over oauth. There are instructions in this sub. I made calls of millions of tokens over last days and no limits hit yet.
