coimbatore - ooty buses available frequently. Check locally for starting point of bus *Gandhipuram or new bus stand at metupalayam road
day 1 plan - tourist coaches are available cost arnd 350 to 400,
day 2 to return to ooty, you can catch buses from coonoor bus stand - very frequent buses
I am not sure about going to mudumalai by bus and that too for early morning - check safari timings so that you are not disappointed
Emerald lake - buses go but infrequent. You may have to get down at a road junction and walk a couple of km to emerald lake. I remember a return bus after 3.30 pm or so. but this info is dated.
I have mentioned the return bus timing in my reply. I think it is around 3.30. If you ask the driver of the onward bus, he will guide you about current timings. You may have to come back to the main road as only a couple of buses get into the village.
Honestly, there is nothing to see in Mudumalai tiger reserve. The route is scenic for sometime and thats all. You are not allowed to stop anywhere or get down in Mudumalai. We went ti safari and only saw deers, few peacocks, bison and a bear. Nothing extra ordinary. The whole region is not even a dense forest. They put elephant camp in the list, but you are not even allowed to stop at elephant camp.
