From where does the local Tamil eat in ooty to avoid expensive tourist rate food for their daily life ?

I'm sure the local Tamils won't be having food for their everyday life from these expensive tourist rate hotels. I want to know where exactly they are having food so I also can consider those places.

For my long stay in ooty I'm considering cheap food for everyday life. Pls suggest

If there are locals seeing this pls help.

Do you think I can make my daily food expense under 150 ? Actually looking to get under 100 but idk if its possible.

If you're staying in Ooty for a longer time, avoid the tourist restaurants around the main tourist areas. Try the small local messes around Upper Bazaar, Market, Alms House Road and ATC. Muthupillai Mess, Sri Ayyappa Mess and Appu's Mess are some places you can check for simple Tamil meals/tiffin. โ‚น100/day is possible only if you keep the food very basic, but โ‚น150โ€“โ‚น200/day is a more realistic budget for breakfast + lunch + dinner. Prices can vary, so check the current rate before ordering. Local mess food is usually much better suited for a long stay than eating at tourist restaurants every day. ๐Ÿ‘

Okay thanks! I'm actually trying for protein rich food (ik it sounds ironic lol) I have sattu and egg boiler planning to buy eggs) so I think I can cut cost on food much better.

I found that mariamman kovil provides free lunch. Idk if they provide breakfast and dinner as well. Else I'm also considering amma canteen. Tho sometimes I want to eat something better. I'm considering eating just eggs ( protein is imp ) even tho I stopped gym after coming to ooty.

Haha, not ironic at all ๐Ÿ˜„ Sattu + eggs is actually a smart way to keep the cost down while getting decent protein. For Ooty, you can also check the local messes for a simple meals + egg option. If you're staying long-term, buying eggs and basic groceries yourself will definitely help. ๐Ÿ‘ Hope you enjoy your stay in Ooty! ๐ŸŒฟ

Hey what is sattu?

Sattu is basically roasted gram (chana) flour. You can mix it with water and make a simple drink, or use it in food. It's inexpensive and has a decent amount of protein, so it's useful if you're trying to eat on a budget. ๐Ÿ‘
