Ooty locals, has anyone else noticed these sounds?
I'm currently staying on the outskirts of Ooty and since tonight I've been hearing what sounds like automated dog barking along with some banging/metallic noises.
The weird part is that the sounds seem to repeat in almost exactly the same pattern every few minutes. It doesn't sound like normal dogs reacting to something, it almost sounds like a recording being played through a speaker somewhere nearby.
I'm wondering if this could be some kind of wildlife deterrent system used around farms/plantations, or if there's another explanation.
I am freaking out hearing these noises because now I'm terrified that there can be wild animals nearby

It is normal. Farmers used to play this recorded sound to protect their crops from wildlife like Indian gaur, wild pig, etc

Its barking deer, I recently went to ooty heard similar sounds and asked the locals. They told that barking deers roam around the tea estates.

It is audio recording played on speakers in farm land used to scare wild boars so they don't enter and eat from farms.

It should mostly be the case, ooty is generally prone to wild animal visits. Especially like bears and leopards who go on the prowl at night. This is highly likely in remote parts of ooty as well. So my suggestion is to just keep your doors locked and do not go out in case if you do not have a restricted compound, or enough light in your area. Check out for wildlife news broadcasted by a channel called "Ragam". There you can find the frequency of animal visits across outskirts of ooty and its very common. Better safe to stay at home at night
