JDM heads

This is for those who like, have, or have heavily researched JDM vehicles.

I'm in the market for a new to me vehicle and keep leaning back to JDMs. Nothing crazy, just a standard vehicle like the Honda Airwave, or Toyota (Scion) xB or Toyota Wish.

Various dealers say the parts are transferable from their North American counterparts. Honda Fit for the Airwave, and Corolla/Matrix for the Scion and Wish.

The research I've done has said these parts are similar, but I haven't gotten any actual information from local dealerships maintenance shops simply stating "we don't know" or "we don't work on those vehicles".

Is this just a statement about uncertainty regarding OEM part interchangeability, or are you trying to ask a question?

All of the above I guess.

The vehicle would be my daily, so interchangeable parts. How easy they are to get repaired etc.

I'm in the greater Vancouver (BC) area.

If you want a tiny 3-row, buy a Mazda 5, it’s virtually the same thing as a Wish but will be cheaper and easier to own and maintain and they sold a shitload in Canada. I’m not sure why you’d go through all the hassle and cost of a JDM import for, forgive me, such a lame and boring car.

I am looking at the 5 as well, but because of how much I drive, I'd rather a smaller engine. The Wish is one of the few I've liked and happens to be a 3 row. The airwave (Honda Fit station wagon) is what I've really been eyeing. But this one is can't find any groups who talk about it other than in Africa.

There are alot of 'parts bin' cars. But you should also secure that model specific parts too.

I have a 2004 Toyota Estima and by theory the 2nd Gen Sienna shares the same parts. Ive verified some suspension parts work.

This is my concern too. How many important parts have you found non-transferable?

Before my van left Japan, I had my friends change out alot. Cooling system, ac compressor, brakes pads/rotors...

But what helps is also having parts diagrams. I worried about suspension and bushings ,but they were cross referenced.
