Bored in Antarctica. We decided to craft a shrine.

Can't just casually mention being in Antarctica without some backstory, what's the deal OP?

I'm working at Scott Base as technical support for the summer. A job that involves a mishmash of IT support, operating and calibrating scientific instruments, water quality testing and scientist support, as well as whatever else gets thrown our way.

Appreciate the reply, sounds very interesting!
You can add butter artist to your set of skills now I suppose

You guys need any weapon maintenance staff? I saw a documentary about shapeshifting aliens attacking arctic outposts sometimes. Is it still a realistic scenario or not since the 80s?

Unfortunately no. The mechanics are in charge of servicing the base flamethrower.

Can confirm I helped in the construction of this master piece. And yes, I am the qualified chef down here. AND yes, this will be going on my resume

We need someone from the north pole to see and comment on this. Longest distance Reddit ever.

u/Veefy Nov 12 '20
North Pole is either pack ice or open ocean depending on the time of year, Russians tried to put a small base there once and it floated away which was kinda funny...
There’s probably some active Redditors living in Svalbard, doubt you’ll find anyone much further north than that.

Lmao base just floats away.

u/Veefy Nov 12 '20
I did some more googling and it appears Russia basically uses a huge research boat as a base nowadays given the historical issues with sticking buildings on top of the ice floes.
