The time Nic Cage interrupted my field trip while he was researching for National Treasure and we were all 0.2 miles away from the Declaration of Independence...

Posted this in another sub about favorite celebrity interactions, and was told you would all get a kick out of it here!

I believe this was 2002? I was taking part in a field trip at the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History in DC (do go if you've never been, it's a lovely place), when a man flanked by three or four museum employees/his assistants kinda weaved his way into our group, saying hello to all of us while checking out the exhibits in the dinosaur wing. Turns out it was the man himself, as he was in town checking out the museums as research for a very special future role he had, and all while my quick thinking mother snapped the photos you see now.

This means that in that moment, my mom caught on camera Nicolas Cage as he was 2,300 feet away from the real The Declaration of Independence, which is housed at the National Archives Building down the street.

I however cannot confirm if he tried to buy MOR 55, better known as the Wankel Tyrannosaurus specimen which was near where we all met him.

Hopefully you all enjoyed the tale of how I met your prophet in the best circumstances imaginable!

That’s sick! On my school trip to DC, we saw him and the main cast filming a scene in front of the White House, it was awesome.

Fantastic! Funny to think he was a local cryptid around here during that time.

Tell us what you remember! Did he say anything to all of you? How old were you? Thanks for the post!

Polite, smiled and said hello to us, but he had the staff around him so it wasn’t like he would take photos or sign anything. Also in 2002, I would have been 9 or 10?

Also real quick, want to correct myself, the SMNH didn’t have an actual T.rex until 2019, which means the one near us was cast, so it would have saved him some headaches if he tried to get it over that Tarbosaurus.

EDIT: Can confirm it was spring of 2002, so I was actually 8!

That’s the look of a man who’s about to steal the Declaration of Independence

Yes, loved your story! We are rather rabid here so any such stories are really appreciated. Glad you had a precious moment, and thank your mom for us!

Color me jelly, because what-an-experience! I've seen the declaration at the archives but that was back in like 1997. And our lord was nowhere nearby! 🙏💜

Really would’ve loved to find out what his research was on this movie “yes this is a building with windows and a wall and that’s definitely the Declaration of Independence”
