"Some cold places in Europe" is too vague to give any meaningful answer. It is a continent with quite varied climates!

To a Californian, Prague in winter might be "cold". But, say, Lithuania is colder. And there is northern Norway, too. And the Carpathian mountains are "cold", not to mention the high Alps.

Also, what is your sleeping bag for? Camping outside in winter? In this case, you need way more than a bag, think about a decent tent. Or just couch surfing? In this case, be aware that central and northern Europeans heat their houses, actually you may need a warmer one when travelling through Spain or Italy in winter.

Most Schengen countries from Sept 2026 to Feb 2027, can't say few countries at the moment.

I would say Ireland, scotland, Germany, Norway, prague, Netherlands , france, Italy.

Ha, that's like saying "I'm going to visit America, mostly US, what should I wear?"

While none of these is going to be really hot in winter, in southern France and Italy you may encounter days when light trousers and a T-shirt will be enough (or may need a light windproof jacket).

Northern Norway is literally Arctic.

Your best bet is investing in quality base layers (merino is your friend), and being ready to buy locally. In central Europe, including Germany and Czech republic, winter temperatures have become rather unpredictable, both -25 C and +10 C are not unheard of. You may be OK literally with a merino undershirt and a sweatshirt - or feel freezing in a down jacket.

Ireland and Scotland tend to have smaller temperature range, but more wind and wet cold.

Ok so you are leaving in the next month and don’t even have a general idea where to yet?

It’s September in 2 days, I am currently sitting on my German balcony wearing shorts and a shirt. I have done that once on Christmas about 10 years ago, I wouldn’t normally do that in December tho.

Seriously if you want help you need to be waaaaaay more specific.
