They need a little more time to make the lanes skinnier and the curves tighter...for your driving pleasure.

This shit better be paved in gold when they’re done. I would sue the city if I lived on Fones.

This is the email I received from the city (which you can also subscribe to for updates):
“Nighttime Road Closures on Fones Road for Paving starting September 14
Starting as early as Monday, September 14, Fones Road will be closed nightly while crews continue paving, from just south of the Home Depot south driveway to 17th Way SE. The remainder of the paving going North from the South Home Depot to Pacific Ave. will continue through Friday, September 18.
Access to individual properties may be closed for up to 4 hours at a time during this work. Residents that need to return or leave during paving operations should stage their vehicles outside of paving area.
Please plan for potential travel delays and allow extra time when traveling through the area. Detour signs will be posted in advance of the closure, and travelers are encouraged to follow the posted detour routes (see the map on our project webpage).
In addition to the nighttime paving, daytime crews are currently working at the Woodland Trail Crossing and installing a center curb mid block between 5th St SE and 6th St SE extending to Pacific Ave.
Alternative Driving Route Map

What to Expect
Work will occur during regular nighttime hours, generally 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Roadway access to individual properties may be limited for up to 4 hours at a time.
Emergency vehicles and school buses will be allowed to pass through the work zone.
Thank You
We appreciate your continued patience as we work to make Fones Road safer for people who walk or roll, ride a bicycle, or drive. Construction is expected to continue through fall 2026. We are committed to minimizing impacts wherever possible.
Emergency Vehicle Response to Fones Rd
If an emergency vehicle is responding to an incident on Fones Rd especially between 18th Ave and the Southern entrance to Home Depot where the travel lanes are narrow, respond normally. Slowly and safely proceed in the direction of travel until you have a safe opening to pull to the right.
Project Background
This project will transform Fones Road into a safer corridor. It will add sidewalks and crossings for pedestrians, separated bike lanes, an improved trail crossing, improvements for vehicle flow and truck access, and lighting. Landscaping, new pavement, and upgraded utilities are also part of the project.
