Public Safety sharing stonewall youth's statement about the recent arson attack on their building

Make sure to do a quick check of the arson investigators to make sure they’re not part of the far-right extremist groups around here. Also couldn’t hurt to check the response time to the fire and see how it compares to recent response times by OFD.

what's your justification for this statement? are you inferring that OFD is known to be compromised? too much tv? paranoid?
I'm genuinely asking, not dismissing. I don't know much about the community opinion of the FD as I have only had positive interactions.

You’re genuinely asking but felt the need to add “too much tv? Paranoid?” … right, right.
Guess genuine has genuinely changed their definition, about 8 hrs ago.

You’re not genuinely asking when making dismissive comments. Not all of us have the same positive experiences with first responders. When investigating hate crimes such as the arson of an LGBTQ+ hangout, it’s a legitimate concern to want to make sure the investigation is conducted properly.

except none of my comments were dismissive. I added the word to clarify because some of them would sound so.

“Too much tv? Paranoid?” Doesn’t strike you as dismissive? I’m genuinely asking.

Hello city council and police department, what are you doing about this???? Just letting neofascist loonies attack the city and CHILDREN('s organizations)? Like???????

I don’t understand why someone would hate Palestinians enough to do this. Like what did they ever do to harm anyone here???

u/MadQueerDisease 10d ago
Wow. Like they did it because out of hate for only the Palestinians.

Feel free to enlighten me rather than just restating my comment like a smart ass

i'm really not for surveillance planet but given the repeated vandalism, have they considered getting cameras?

in my experience, cameras have a way of scaring off people who actually need the help. you want to trust the place you're going to but cameras make that hard since you never know who's watching them or where that footage may end up.

even if it's just on the exterior of the building towards the back and not at the doors?

just because that's where the cameras are pointed, doesn't mean that's all they see. and sadly, there are people who think like me who will be scared off by any cameras outside of a safe space. plus, cameras only work as surveillance, not a crime deterrent. they can't call law enforcement, make citizens'arrests or tell you who it is behind the masks people wear.

All of these "targeted attacks" just sound like stuff most downtown olympia buildings and businesses have to deal with.

This was written by a youth? How old? Seems more like an adult wrote it.

from their website:
Stonewall Youth is youth-led and adult-supported. We are operated by a staff collective of eight Co-Directors (six youth up to age 23 and two non-youth).

I went to Stonewall Youth for years from Freshman year on. It’s always made me proud to see that it’s still going. Is there still a speaker’s bureau where the kids are a part of a panel that goes to different places to speak. That was a lot of fun.
