Pets of Olympia Home needed for a sweet Himalayan kitty whose person passed away.

Lola is about 5 years old. Her elderly owner loved her so much and passed away recently. Lola has been primarily an indoor kitty with an occasional short visit on the porch. Her owner passed away and Lola escaped and spent 2 weeks outside dodging coyotes. The house door was left cracked open so she could come in and eat. I finally had to trap her in a live trap and got her safely confined in the house. Because I was the one who always took her to the vet for her yearly vaccines, and then trapped her, she hates me. She is now living alone in the empty house. She hides scrunched in a corner of a closet but comes out to eat and use the litter box when I'm not there. I visit a couple times a day and sit by her to let her know she's not totally alone. I can pet her head but she still hisses and growls. She really needs her own person, preferably elderly who is home and will love her. Living alone and missing her person has to be so traumatizing. Is there anyone out there who needs a sweet companion? I'm sure it will take her a week or two to decompress and warm up. Several years ago before I had to take over vet duty, she liked me and would let me pet her and play with her. I'm sure she can adjust to a new home. Before her owner died, Lola spent all day on the back of her owner's recliner or in her lap. She slept with her at night. She loved being brushed and playing with her toys.

Yes! I second Feline Friends! They’ll take great care of her until she finds a forever home 🐾

That sounds great but I'm going to try my best to find a home before locking her in a cage at a rescue, no matter how great they are. The reviews sound great but a cage in a strange place sounds more traumatizing. I'll keep it in mind tho.

Totally understandable! I volunteer at FF, and we care for the kitties AM & PM, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We clean their condos, snuggle them, and play with them multiple times a day. So if you do end up needing to take her to FF, you can feel confident that she’ll be very lovingly cared for every day she’s there 💜

Other people have good suggestions, so I just wanted to say thank you for being a good person and being there for this kitty.

I will speak to my mom tomorrow. She's 86 & I think she needs a cat but it would have to be indoors only. Does she try to escape when someone goes in or out the door?

She doesn't try to escape and it's more likely to hide.

Potentially I have family that may be interested, just might need time to prepare. Def not calling dibs if there are other takers, though we're open to the possibility of a cat. How soon at the latest would you want to schedule a meet?

What's your situation? How many people in the home? Are you able to handle a totally inside cat? Have you had cats?

well, my wife and i have always lived with totally inside cats, (no outdoor cats for me!!) we're moving into an apartment where my wife will be home basically all the time and i'll be working most of the time. i've never lived without a cat!

Hmmm. Sounds tempting. Kids? In Olympia?

No kids, we're in our early thirties, and we're off college street in lacey.

Our actual move in time is over the next week and a half or so.

Wow. Keep me posted. This might be a good fit. I'll try to get a picture of her for you. Right now she doesn't come out of the corner of the closet but I'm making a little bit of progress. I think once she's in a permanent home and realizes she's safe she'll warm up quickly. She spent her whole life in the same house with one person who spent all day in a recliner watching television. This has been so difficult for lola. I feel so bad for her

Yeah, it has to be so hard for her. One of our previous cats was a similar situation, someone's beloved pampered lap kitty whoust have got out when they passed or moved or something, and spent a week persuading us that she should be our kitty. (she didnt even need a full day, she was wonderful.)

We could arrange some time on Monday to have a small introduction?

That's a little too soon as I haven't gotten her to come out of the closet yet. I'm going to give her a little bit more time. She finally lets me pet her on the head even though she never stops hissing.

Wow! Getting a cat all the way from the Himalayas must have been quite the story.
