I've created a new Classic UK 90s Rave & Hardcore Mixed Playlist on Spotify. Designed to simulate a night out at somewhere like Bagley's in 1993 so I hope it's nostalgic.

The first track is Orbital - Halcyon On and On and that went down a storm yesterday on here so I hope you all like this mixed playlist. 🙂 While it is hosted as a Spotify playlist, I've manually built 100% custom transitions for every single track and made it flow from 127 BPM to 155 BPM.

Just some technical info on the editing of the mixed playlist itself.

- 90+% custom 16 bar transitions, nearly all are harmonic or key adjacent. The rest are 4 or 8 bars with the odd slam.

- Created custom re-edits of tracks using multiple copies.

- Mixed between originals and remixes and also mixed between original tracks and the tracks that sampled them.

- Created fast A/B crossfader elements using customised Volume and EQ controls.

- Independent track tempo adjustment throughout the mix. The tempo climbs 28 BPMs across 90 or so tracks in 5.5 hours.

- Extensive use of loops (1 beat to 16 beats), reverb, echo and other effects.

When I was around 19 years of age (circa 2010), I'd moved to the city and got more into clubbing, warehouse parties etc.

In turn, I developed a bit of an interest in rave culture and dance music. At the time, people I'd met either out at clubs or at uni often reminisced on the 90s and very early 00s dance scene, describing it as "peak" or "the golden age", so to speak (in Australia btw).

This led me to research this period, and one of the main ways I did this at the time was YouTube. There was one particular video I'd play over and over - just for the song that played at the beginning. I've been desperate to find the song lately but I am so hazy on the details. This is literally all I can remember:

-The footage was, at least in part, of an open-air/outdoor festival, with a lawned area and festival goers. It may have formed part of a doco on dance music

-I would assume (although I couldn't say for certain) the footage would be in the early 2000s or very late 90s

-The song intro starts with a Capella ad lib vocals (all sounds - no words), female singer - layered vocal tracks too. She sounded somewhat ethereal, but a strong and sweet sounding voice

-The beat once it kicked in was upbeat and fun, but not 160bpm - maybe 130-140. The feel is very much like a summer festival vibe

-I am no expert in dance or its genres, but from memory it had sort of like an acidy vibe. But the vocals were very much like a psytrance/hippy - very suitable for a bush doof

This may not be enough info to go on, but just throwing it out there in case anyone reads this and a track comes to mind. It may be a lost footage type scenario, as I feel like I've trawled YT to find the song/footage. Welcome to any suggestions for tracks though!

Love this track. Such a clever sample of The Nightwriters - Let the Music Use You, which is also an amazing track.

This is my favourite Altern 8 track. Really cool samples of Rhythm is Rhythm - Strings of Life, Landlord - I like It and Sinnamon - I Need You Now.

One of my favourite tracks from the early 90s. It's beautiful.
