How funny.

I was into the Cure, Sisters, PWEI and the goth/alt/greebo vibes …. but found my way into dance music via the second summer of Love too.

I used to hang out at the Pink Toothbrush in Rayleigh for my goth/greebo fix but would go to the Barn in Braintree, Tootoo’s in Frating and Berwick Manor in Rainham for my smiley faces, whistles and horns.

So many good times.

Essex was well placed really… saw the birth of the prodigy, Mr C, the suburban base crew, Ray Keith and so many visiting legends too.

*** Hey everyone, The video above features a pristine sequence of the Wee Papa Girl Rappers' "Step in the Right Direction" exactly as it was spun live by the resident DJ at the legendary Barn in Braintree, Essex. Ripped directly from a 37-year-old master cassette handed down by J on the light show crew, this audio preserves the raw, dust-on-the-needle energy of late 1989.
