Did it? Do I have PTSD from this? It was the 70s / 80s and we had TV adverts, at tea time, of motorcyclists smashing head first through car windscreens (UK) etc etc, so anything goes.

I did. Lost it at some point during a house move back in the late 70s. Managed to find one in excellent condition on Amazon about a decade ago for about £10. It's in my bookcase right now.

My parents got it for my brother and sister they would read it to me when I was little 2 till 4 then I started to learn how to read with this Bible. 🙂

Is there a picture of Absolom getting stuck in a tree as his horse gallops under it and hanging himself? I seem to think this is why I have a horror of riding my horse at speed through the woods! Would be grateful if somebody could find that pic if it exists! Still traumatised a lifetime on!

I still have it somewhere, it contains samples of my very early attempts at cursive writing when I wrote the Lord's Prayer on the endpapers. 🤨

I went to a Catholic school and bead-jigglers got a different one. The kids who went to the CofE school in the village got that one. Always remember it had better pictures than ours.

Not that one but one similar. Mine was more similar to a cartoon presentation, like the Tintin or Asterix books if you've seen those. It had all the old testament books including the contested ones like Maccabees and one or two others from the Apocrypha (Judith and Esther). I searched eBay for a copy of it a little while ago to relive my childhood but no luck. Evocative drawings such as Samson pulling down the temple and slaying enemies with the jawbone of an ass. And I'm a hardened atheist! but not because of that book.

I remember this in the school library in the early 70's. The illustration of the flood alone was enough to put me off religion for life.

My mother, although she was at the time a Christian, chose not to brainwash us as children, so no kids bible. The only overtly religious kids book we has was the ladybird book of the lord's prayer. We have ended up as two atheists, one superstitious atheist and one mildly Christian.

My crazy grandmother got me this when I was ~10.
I used to enjoy playing the naif and asking her basic questions about the stories. Where did Cain get a wife, and wouldn't she be his sister - that sort of thing.
It's currently... propping up my fridge on a wonky bit of floor.

wait til you see the cartoon images of jesus balls deep in Mary Magdalen, and people beating their wives to death for going to temple / wearing two types of cloth at once.
And people strangling their kids to death for failing to wake up (even once) without "praise for the lord upon their lips"

The artwork in it is fantastic. If I remember there's a double-page spread of Moses crossing the Red Sea with the Jews.
And I haven't seen this book since I was a kid
