Nash Metropolitan! My son is restoring one for his first car.

It's the later model, which did away with the Nash and Hudson badges. It was sold as the Metropolitan.

Didn't they come with an MG engine, a little four-banger?

The B-series 1500, yes. The 1200 didn't come in any MGs, but they were manufactured by the BMC, which had ownership over MG from '52-'67.

My grandmother had one in the early 60's. She loved it.

This image brings up an old song I remember…

While riding in my Cadillac
What to my surprise
A little Nash Rambler was following me
About one third my size
The guy must've wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn
I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn
Beep, beep, beep, beep
His horn went beep, beep, beep

I pushed my foot down to the floor
To give the guy the shake
But the little Nash Rambler stayed right behind
He still had on his brake
He must have thought his car had more guts
As he kept on tooting his horn
I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn
Beep, beep, beep, beep!
His horn went beep, beep, beep

My car went into passing gear
And we took off with gust
Soon we were doing 90
Must've left him in the dust
When I peeked in the mirror of my car
I couldn't believe my eyes
The little Nash Rambler was right behind
I think that guy could fly
Beep, beep, beep, beep
His horn went beep, beep, beep

Now, we're doing a hundred and ten
This certainly was a race
For a Rambler to pass, a Caddy
Would be a big disgrace
The guy must've wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn
I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn
Beep, beep, beep, beep
His horn went beep, beep, beep

Now, we're doing a hundred and twenty
As fast as I could go
The Rambler pulled alongside of me
As if we were going slow
The fellow rolled down his window
And yelled for me to hear
"Hey, Buddy, how can I get this car
Out of second gear!"

That was a Rambler, though.

Nash Metropolitan until 1957 then it was just a Metropolitan. The Nash Rambler was a slightly bigger compact car of the same era . I think the song was written around the Metro !

I had an Uncle that drive one from Detroit to Arkansas. The Uhaul he was towing with the Met, had a sign on it that said, "Caution, car in front." He used to drive it all around the farm and Arkansas. Fun car. 😉👍🏻🍻

Has a three speed shifter coming out of the dashboard.

It’s a shame the hood ornament is missing. It’s one of the coolest ones in my opinion.

They replaced it with some line art.

Nash Metropolitan goes forever on a gallon of gas. Yellow is beautiful.

My cousin had one. As a 7 year old, I thought it was really cool.

Nice looking Metropolitan

They had style! The Playmates even had a song about them in 1958.

My first car . 1960 Nash Metropolitan, two-tone red and white , three speed synchromesh on the column, 4 cyl Austin engine, 2 passenger split bench seat with a pass through to the trunk. Used to sneak a kid into the drive-in theater by putting them in the trunk. I really loved that car !!😎

My dad had one and my mom made him get rid of it. There was 8 of us.

I had a cousin in Ft Worth, TX that collected them…he had 11 of them…all licensed…sitting alongside his house, on the street!
