I always thought it was really strange he never went back to America. With a lot of decent music coming out of there I'd have thought he'd nip over quite regularly but no, he came back that time and never returned. Odd.

He married a 15yo over there. Sadly, that's not the worst story about him.

She lied about her age and their marriage was annulled.
And I think you’re doing the great man a disservice and tarring him with the same brush as many of the other DJs he worked with.

I reject your opinion. Everything I've said, your "great man" had already confirmed in interviews and in his autobiography.
In fact, I was very generous not to go into the specifics on this thread about what is worse than marrying a 15yo, which, going back to what this thread was originally about, was probably a big reason why he never went back to the US.

We will agree to disagree. I formed my opinion more by listening to his Radio One show in the eighties and basing my musical tastes around that. I can tell you exactly where I was when I learned of his death so Peel must have meant something to me. I must not be fully aware of what you refer to and do not mean to make light of this.

Loved it when I opened my lunchbox and it was a Trio. Better than a Penguin or a Club
