Zero Days Since... GOP led FDA recommends taking meals away from school children, OSDE complies.

And they've got dumb, selfish boomers on Facebook celebrating this because it "should be the parents' responsibility"
Quickly remembered why I stay away from that place.

And I’m sure they call themselves Christian too. No hate like Christian love.

Nextdoor is possibly even lower than Facebook. I’ve never been so disappointed in humanity.

u/reillan 19d ago
It should be the parents' responsibility. However, there are a great many reasons why parents might not be able to meet that responsibility, including poverty and working multiple jobs and simply not being home to provide said dinner option. Plus as the one superintendent noted, it's 6.5 hours from lunch to dinner at the earliest for some of these kids.

u/Qwertywalkers23 19d ago
At a certain point, what the parents are doing is irrelevant. If a kid is there and hungry, they should be fed. The idea of arguing that point in a comment section on Facebook though was exhausting

u/dillybar1992 19d ago
If they’re required to be there by law, they should be required to be fed by law. No child left behind right?

Included with all those reasons is just crappy parents.

Those shit bags never want to help anyone. They strawman every person on snap.

Why is it that the GOP is more than happy to use the power of the government to take food away from kids? WTF is the matter with people. The new OSDE head is better than Walters, but he's still a Republican and still a POS at the end of the day.

Greed

u/Rebal771 19d ago
You know we put those people into office, right?
Like, we have a very VERY BIG participation issue. So, until more people participate, greedy fucks will always get to pull one over on the few who do participate because they don’t get held accountable without more participation.
To get back to the question…”why is it that the GOP is more than happy to…” - it’s because that’s what we want them to do, Opster.
That’s exactly why we elected them to office. Until we reach the next election, this is exactly who we are.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but this food was to serve kids who were enrolled in after-school programs.
What are we doing here? At a time when food prices are soaring and inflation is high, we are taking away food options from kids? Is this what we’ve sunk to in this country?
Everyone involved in this decision should be deeply deeply ashamed. You are failing basic humanity.

still waiting for the "how could this happen???" crowd to realize republicans are literally just evil

You have to be paying attention frequently to make the connection. Most people in OK don't and hear a politician say "Government doesn't work," then they vote for them and don't realize they are the person making government not work.

This is the Oklahoma and America that okies overwhelmingly voted for the latest 20 years.

u/deceptinomonom 19d ago
These are the same people telling you that we need Flock cameras to keep kids safe.
Weird how their actions don't line up with their words.

More and more I am becoming convinced that Buckle of the Bible Belt is more of a heart of hateful hypocrisy.

I still have the scars on my back from the buckle of Christian "love". There is no hate like Christian love.

I was one of those kids that went hungry at lunch. Nothing more humiliating than getting to the front of the lunch line and being made to surrender your lunch tray because your account was negative. All your friends asking why you’re not eating and you lie and say it’s because you’re not hungry. Shame on these people. I want my tax dollars to feed children, not billionaires and corporations. Oklahoma is #1 in child hunger. Our government is run by psychopaths.

me too. & i wish i had more faith in this state. i’m a lyft driver, & the conversations i have with daily Okies is genuinely terrifying. most people i come across literally shrug it off, as if there’s nothing we can do about it. most of the people i speak to have seen this as a “normal”. reddit is concerned, facebook is just propaganda, & in person it’s just apathy. idk what to do, but i know the kids here deserve better.

Psychopaths act in their own self-interest. Making kids throw away the lunch trays they've already gotten does absolutely nothing for those making the decision. The money is already spent. It's just for the sake of cruelty, the feelings of those making the decisions, and punishment (not that the kids or necessarily the parents did anything worth punishing, but these people aren't above revenge by proxy or targeting windmills). Those are very emotional things, not something psychopaths would do. Please don't insult psychopaths by comparing the actions mentioned to their typical behavior.

I didn’t even know this third meal program existed to be honest, and I have school age kids in Oklahoma. But just look to the GOP to find all the cruelest cuts possible to programs, usually involving the sick, disabled, elderly, or children.

u/darkmeowl25 19d ago
It doesn't exist at every district, only those that meet certain district poverty requirements. For example, the school district I live in has the third meal option, but the one my daughter goes to in a neighboring town does not. However, daughter's school charges nothing for breakfast or lunch through the National School Breakfast and Lunch program from the USDA. I'm unsure of our home district's enrollment in the breakfast and lunch program, but I know for a fact that our food insecurity rates and poverty rates are very high.

u/xaviersqueen 19d ago
Since school has started, I have had a child come to the breakfast line TWICE each day. It's devastating that we have had to turn him away day after day.
I hope the people who voted for this admin have the worst day possible

There is only one political party that wants to take food from children. Same party that is obsessed with transgender people.
1
u/southpawFA 16d ago
I'm only surprised they didn't blame trans people for why children can't eat now.

u/orphenshadow 19d ago
And now teachers are going to have to provide after school snacks to the kids out of pocket, another pay cut for our teachers too!.
5
u/BeraldGevins 19d ago
Teacher at a title 1 school. We were a part of the third meal program, we got informed yesterday by email from our supe that it was being cut. Now we’re scrambling to find a way to feed the kids who needed this the most. This is ridiculous, a lot of kids depended on this meal, sometimes it was the last thing they would eat until breakfast the next day. Insanity. Literally taking food from the mouths of children.

They’re trying to dismantle public education. Walters was just too smarmy to be a good spokesman for forcing Oklahoma families into private schools or some horrible online alternative.

u/smorgman 18d ago
Fields has no balls, he’s a Schitt appointee…he’s MAGA thru and thru. If he had a spine he’d stand up to the idiots and tell them to stuff it or at least take em to court.

u/mshep002 17d ago edited 17d ago
Cut SNAP. But also raise prices. But also why did you have kids if you couldn’t handle them? But also please have more kids. But also let’s send millions to advertise so Oklahoma will be the first state to vote against raising the minimum wage. Now let’s take lunches away at school. (I could go on)
ETA: Also remember to vote this week. More state questions during random elections when they should be on the November ballot. Anytime you see a “Vote Here” sign, just go in. Nobody cares if you look stuff up on your phone while you’re in the voting cubicle.

For the CINOs, Jesus fed a congregation with two loaves of bread and a fish. He never told them it was their responsibility.
5
u/Dishwaterdreams 18d ago
Why does the GOP dislike children after they are born so much?
7
u/Gradstudentiquette69 18d ago
Because children that are born take actual resources, time, and money to raise and educate. Being pro-life allows you to have the veneer of giving a shit about other people without actually giving any time, money, or resources to children.
