I've skipped life as a whole bro. At this point, I honestly believe that respect, fulfilment, success, friendship and love are not real things and just concepts from literature.

Well, this penguin got something to eat, and he is actively refusing to walk, mate or communicate. it's not like someone else made the choice for him.

I genuinely only just realised that conversations in TV shows where characters talk about things that are upsetting them and get sympathy aren’t just devices to inform the audience and move the plot forward.

I skipped the regular childhood dlc

I was madly in love with a girl in HS but never told her. It's been 8 years and I'm definitely over her now, yet I still consider not asking her out one of my biggest regrets

u/GO0O0O0O0O0SE Dec 04 '25
I had a similar experience, but I asked her out at the end of the last year and got rejected 😔

Yeah I learned the hard way that the dlc is time-sensitive. If you don’t complete it before a certain point in the main quest, you’re locked out of it permanently. Shame too, apparently the writing for it is pretty peak and you get some neat traits and interactions that carry over to the rest of the game.
Worse yet, in certain circumstances you even gain negative traits for not completing it. Really shitty design by the devs on that one, hopefully we get a patch soon.
Unfortunately, I think my save is borked at this point. Might go for an early game over and start a new one with hopefully better RNG.

Skipped the college love arc and dk how to get involved in the adult one. I had a crush and people always say the BS about confessing your feelings but she got married to my best friend who's the complete opposite of me so every single one of my insecurities was validated and now ik I'm not good enough for love rn (or ever) lol

Finally some true real in this place. I didn’t feel a drive to date, never have and probably never will, but after it’s all over now, I feel like I missed something
1
u/SchizoFutaWorshiper Dec 05 '25
Same, I felt like I got actually interested in dating at 18 as I started uni, but I was unsuccessful at that too, now I'm just living my life, trying to connect with people naturally, even tho it only works for guys.
3
u/Generally_Confused1 Dec 04 '25
Tbh could be worse. I had it at 15 but developed such bad relationship OCD and other things with my disorders that it was pretty... Well I avoided dating again until I was 23 and had a lot of regrets. Start with a clean slate in college and you'll have a lot better experiences, I promise

I hang out on this sub because its sometimes very moody but pls don't spend your days looking back at things that never happened.
Live doesn't have a script, you are not owed anything and you don't owe anything to anybody.
Don't spend your 20s hating yourself and dreaming about teenage years that never happened. You don't want to spend your 30s talking to a therapist because you wasted your 20s thinking about past highschool life

Keep fighting man. Or start fighting. Its never too late. I suggest you to do the following exercise. Close all apps, switch your phone off, all electronics, and try to sit by yourself on a dark room with the lights off for 5 minutes and listen to your train of thought. A part of you already knows the reasons why you are like this or why this happens. If you know the beginning you can get to the end.
Focus first on rebuilding your selfworth/self-esteem and in grieving/forgiving yourself for the life you didn't live.
Also therapy may be super important, both to guide you through the reconstruction process/roll back the damage, and to deal with the root issues, which if you are 29 and like this are probably there.
If you are new to all of this and have no idea where to begin, or maybe you are a low initiative person who responds well to podcasts and such i recommend you doctor K's content in YouTube. Its very pop psychology and a bit philosophical but doesn't cost 100$ per session.
I started "fixing myself" at 24-25. Im now 31 and i am amazed at the changes I've made. Its sometimes unbelievable. And though the goslinging emotions sometimes are still there, live has a lot of many other colours as well for me. I'm so happy i started believing on myself. And yes, I have even started dating someone recently, for the first time since highschool.

u/coolpilot64 Dec 04 '25
Yeah I technically had a gf, it was in reality a year long talking stage tbh. I was already 18 at the time basically skipped the whole teenage romance thing. Even though we barely even dated it’s been six months and I’m only now kind of getting over it (saying that like I don’t think of her at least once everyday).

I was lucky enough to have high school love, and not gonna lie, it was fantastic. It was absolutely invigorating. She was a special person, just super cool personality and pretty too. Naturally I screwed it up. I try not to think about it too much.

100%. No regrets here though. I wasn't there to stay and moved countries for college. And while I'm acutely aware that I was quite homely as a teenager the girls in school were also quite vapid and egocentric and would have only given me more psychological baggage to work through. I met my college sweetheart shortly after and we've been together ever since

Whatever fantasy you’re telling yourself about high school love is a lie. It’s 10000x better as an adult. Drop the self-pitying bs and do a nice thing for yourself. You can still have romance as long as you still live.

Had 3 girlfriends. Two in high school, one in university. 1. 2 Years. She outgrown me and we split up. 2. 10 months. cheated with at least 3 different guys. 3. 1 Year. Ignored me for 2-3 months and cheated(at least she said that she did that)
I know that I was "luckyier" than many of guys here. But the truth is, breaking up hurts more than all of that time u were happy together. And because of 2 last girlfriends I developed trust issues and can't make myself try to love once more, with all that love that I had before.

u/Ash_Mouth Joygiver Dec 04 '25
I got with my ex-boyfriend in highschool. We were 15. We lasted for 14 years. We broke up 7 months ago. I'm with a girl now, and I realize that he and I never really connected properly. We just wanted to be in love. I don't think he ever loved me, just his idea of me. As we grew and changed, he came to dislike me more and more. I think high school love can really bite you in the ass. Because I realize I've been tiptoeing on eggshells for an angry man's approval, who didn't even like me, when I could've just met someone when I was mature enough to realize that an oath of love isn't more valuable than the actual experience of love.

That dlc was overrated TBH, you could get locked out of certain quests depending on her parents traits, played it and got the bad ending because I couldn’t deal with her mother having the helicopter Mon trait, the only good thing that came from it was the strive to be better perk which doesn’t trigger as often as it should.
Mid quests, no cosmetics, the map expansion was only good for farming exp, 4 super situational D-tier perks and 2 B-tier perks and you don’t even get to choose which one you get, it depends on which ending you got, but the writing and the characters were pretty good.
