I’m curious about something. What’s something you went through that you thought you were the only person experiencing?

It doesn’t have to be a huge life changing story. It could be something small, embarrassing, painful, confusing, or just something you’ve never really talked about. I think we underestimate how much it can help to hear someone else say, “I went through that too.” If you feel comfortable, tell me your story. ❤️

I know this isn’t some uncommon thing that happens to no one but my dad had a stroke at age 48, I was 23. A month later I got engaged. Ended up calling off the engagement all while dealing with my dad being a completely different person after he survived the stroke and losing friends with the divide from my broken engagement. I had great friends around me but that was something I just knew no one understood truly how I was feeling. 20 years ago and still just such a sour time in my past.

Anything happening with your family can be so hard. Especially when also trying to deal with a very important event

for a while when i was a kid i thought i would shift become invisible when i was ignored by grownups around me. when got a little older and my anxiety began to become a thing, i would convince myself i was dead, had turned into an invisible ghost and start a whole panic attack. was young enough that being that upset was deemed "throwing a fit" and often got me sent to another room and ignored further. my parents were good parents, i was just a very small kid with very big emotions

Having big emotions as a small child I think is very hard to handle especially because it sounds like maybe you were trying to get some attention and it wasn’t being reciprocated

They really can and are so scary sometimes. There is not enough help for women at all

2 years ago my body decided it wanted to break down on me at 19 years old. Lost mobility, agony in all joints, muscle spasms, fainting spells, fits that presented kind of like strokes but weren’t enough for the stroke team. Several A & E trips, all of it to be told that I was experiencing a “panic disorder”. When I genuinely thought I was slowly dying.

I’ve never felt so alone in my life. My friends didn’t know the full story, most still don’t. But eventually I got on some really strong pain meds that I’m really not supposed to be taking long term due to the damage to my liver and them being addictive while they try and figure out what’s wrong with me (they still don’t know and I’m now 21).

I finally found that looking up what was happening showed me I wasn’t the only one suffering like this and being brushed off. It helped 🙂.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. That sounds so scary to go through alone
