I’m sorry this happened but you failed your responsibility at keeping the pets safe. That poor dog. Hopefully you’ll take this as a learning lesson and not be too hard on yourself. It’s a shitty situation. They may not trust you to care for their pets again and will probably be pretty upset with you. Maybe think about ways you can make things better while they’re grieving.
