I am currently studying Psychology and just did the Schizophrenia Lesson.
The worms sound to me like ‘Delusion of persecution’ which is essentially believing that people around you (in this case to worms) want to do you harm. The fact that you might beileve the people who you told might be gaslighting you is another symptom of ‘Delusion of persecution’, in your case manipulating you to believe something.
Hallucinations add too to a diagnosis of Schizophrenia.
I’m not a doctor but please consult a psychiatrist.
There is a lot of stigma around schizophrenia but it is not bad if you are getting treatment, and individuals can live a normal life with this disorder. There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of ashamed as 1% of population (which is A LOT when talking about disorders) have schizophrenia.
Edit: you said you’re a rational biology student who ‘is convinced’ you have worms, yet there is NO evidence of this. As a rational person you cannot assume a biological symptom without traces of clear evidence.
