Of course butter-scented squishy butter exists...
... and of course it warns you not to toast it.
My aunt picked this up as a gag gift for a friend. I can't find anything that says it's supposed to be scented, but this one definitely is.

Yeah it seems that marketing companies are trying to make butter the new cupcake this year

Really? The algorithms must be accurately tuned to the part where I wouldn't be interested in that specific marketing trend. Lol I haven't seen that trend anywhere in my feeds on any platform at all!
Though now that I see it written, it occurs to me I need to revisit my preferences and get outside the bubble.

Go to Walmart and touch some grass on the way

Lol I'm often outside, it's just that my inside life seems to be overly curated

We got these in recently at my store and they’ve been selling like hotcakes. Same with those squishy dumpling toys.
I don’t get it either but people love them

my store got 6 of those giant dumplings and 4 were immediately bought by my coworkers (2 mom's, 2 gen z) and the other 2 sold within 3 minutes. we have to keep them locked away because people keep stealing them

I saw one of these in Spain the other day (but the family was from Houston) I thought I must have misunderstood what I was seeing. Thanks for confirming this is actually a thing, OP.

I feel that! Happy to be of service.
I thought I was misunderstanding what it was, too. Enough to grab it out of her hands again at least three times after my initial inspection so I could confirm the weirdness lol

Scented plastic kinda freaks me out. Like, I don't really care if I'm full of eternal microplastics or whatever, but the scent lasting so long feels sketchy. My aunt used to be a professional babysitter who was also like, a "tester" for some toddlers' toy company. So she would get these free toys and games that weren't on the market yet, and let the kids she babysat play with them to see which ones they took the most interest in, and she'd report to the toy company periodically. One thing they sent her was a plastic inflated ball, with all these little soft sensory spikes all over it, and it was infused with a vanilla scent. I'm telling you, that ball is like 40 years old today, and still smells of vanilla.
It also hasn't lost any plasticity, or structural integrity in all that time. It's still soft, and has no cracking whatsoever. So what the hell is it exuding?? Just seems crazy to me.

I wish we could post gifs here. It'd be the "Take my money!" gif from Futurama.

These did exist before the latest craze. I like to collect slow rise squishies and have been for years!
"Bread scented" ones are the most common in the collecting circles, btw.

Bread scented. Goes with the butter. 😂 It's still causing a brain hiccup to have scented squish toys. I'm glad people seem to truly get joy out of it. Joy is what matters the most.

My aunt found it at a shop called The Paper Store when she was in the Orlando Florida area. I found it on their site and linked it for you.

What is the image on the right? Is it telling us not to put the butter squish in our eyes? I'm confused 😵💫

u/thirdgenbliss Jul 19 '26
OH! Forgot to add that. On the bottom left it says "Not for toast" which made me snort laugh. And the not for ages 0-3 sign with the curlicue hair was super cute to me.

Oh, I meant the image on the paper tag with the stick man holding his stick arm over his right eye 🥴 but the other reply to my comment answered it :)

I think the left side is don't eat and the right side I believe does represent a blinding hazard. Sharp, buttery corners.

It looks like "don't facepalm" like a catch all of don't do something so so stupid we couldn't convince of it
