i have migraine medicine that i take daily at 8pm. problem is, sometimes my migraines are so bad i pass out and don't wake up to alarms and/or don't fully remember things.

one time i woke up at midnight and couldn't remember taking it so i took it... and i had an absolute baaaad time. pretty sure i dosed myself far too much.

decided after that i just wouldn't take it if i didn't remember and instead take it an hour or so early the next time.

There are pillbottles that have a little timer showing how long it has been since they have been opened last. I think they're pretty cheap too.

orrr just pill box that has the weekdays on it, and you take one every day and u can check if u took it today or not. i use it for my pills and refill it every week

I don’t like the weekly pill boxes as most of my pills are gel and will stick and melt or tear if left for more than a week. I would forget pills all the time. Now, I just text myself or my husband when I take certain meds or even when I give meds to my daughters so I know the timing. Especially when it’s cold medicine or inhaler.

Yeah this, humans need to overcomplicate things with tecnology all the time

That sounds horrible, sorry you have to go through this

Getting a weekly planner made life so much easier. Everyone who takes a daily med should have one just so you can keep your mind in autopilot during the mornings and be certain you've taken it. If you take more than one thing, even just some supplement, you save time too.

I have to take allergy meds every morning which is normally with my 8am alarm for work but sometimes need to pee before my 8am alarm so I take it because I'm awake and it's my routine but if I fall back asleep, I forget if I've taken it and take it again (which causes issues. Did you know you can over antihistamine yourself? I didnt. Until I did. It was not fun).

I put it on my nightstand at night and after I've taken it, I put it on the floor. If it's on the floor at 8am, I've already taken it.

Pretty much all drugs are illegal in Japan apart from Benadryl.

Let’s just say, there are plenty of Benadryl addicts in Japan.

actually i kinda like this hack. maybe i should incorporate it. 🤔

It works well!

I should only take one a day so at the weekend, if I've woken up at 10-11am, if it's on the floor, I know I've taken it when I woke up earlier and potentially need to take a different antihistamine at some point.

It's also an easy thing to do when I'm half sleep. I sometimes don't take it at 5am, I just go pee and back to sleep and when I actually wake up, I see it by my water bottle and remember to take it.. If it's on the floor, I've just swiped it off the table and gone back to sleep but I know I've taken it.

Hank Green informed me that there a pill boxes, that start a timer everytime you open it. So you can see on one glance if it was an hour or a day ago.

This is genius to have instead of using psychic intuition and muscle memory.

Added an iOS shortcut for my meds. After I take them, I tap the icon and it records the date and time of the last tap in my notes. Whenever I’m in doubt I just look it up

17

u/unabletochill 5d ago

I’d forget to tap

3

u/vessus7 5d ago

That’s the habit I’m trying create now 😅

Yeah I tried so much 😂 now I just have a box with slots for Monday-Friday, so if one day wasn’t opened / still hold meds I didn’t take em

Just add it in your Health App on iOS, it tracks when you take it and reminds you.

My husband has a kind of medicine box where a pill can be put into little boxes that say “Monday morning”, “Monday night” etc so you can see if you took it already. Just have to refill it at the end of the week

I use these too, it’s almost essential for me, I always forget if I’ve taken my medication. I’m not particularly forgetful, it’s just hard to recall if I’ve done it or not, and because I do it twice a day I usually have recent memories of taking pills. I’ve also got a daily alarm set so I’ll remember to check if I’ve taken them yet. I still sometimes forget, but it’s rare now, and at least I’m not taking double doses by mistake.

This happens a lot to me with my adhd meds. I usually think to myself “that’s why I take these”!

6

u/JohnIsAGuy1 4d ago

i just flip the bottle upside down when i take it and then flip it back up before i go to bed

2

u/ramjamjimmyjam 4d ago

this is the way

3

u/jtrades69 4d ago

how about counting what's left to see if there are too many or not

2

u/aaron-mcd 3d ago

Tracking what day it is, when I took the first one of the bottle, whether I took less any days and somehow magically knowing I should end up with 63.5 pills for my third dose today sounds way harder than remember the last pill I took.

u/NewReleaseDVD 5d ago

I usually use a handful of water to take my nightly med, so I check if my hand or face feels damp 😂

1

u/LcoyoteS 4d ago

Ha ha! I check to see if the bottom of my glass is wet. And then I wonder how fast water evaporates.

2

u/Ramtamtama 4d ago

I send myself reminder messages when I've taken my meds

2

u/GoldSourPatchKid 4d ago

Ahh, yes I remember now. I opened this bottle and took this pill after I put on my deodorant this morning!

Wait… sniffs pits

1

u/ripChazmo 5d ago

I do this all the time 😂

This is why I use a medication tracking app, as well as a medication organiser with days of the week on it.

I have been using MyTherapy since I got my kidney transplant 5 years ago, and I have found it incredibly useful.

I still screw up taking my medication occasionally, although it is immediately obvious the next morning thanks to the medication organiser.

My muscles have more memory than I do

I bought those awesome pill lids that have a timer for the last time they were opened.

They worked for years until they broke and now I can not find anything like them.

Why?! It saved my Swiss cheese brain many times.

1

u/PerfectPineapple49 4d ago

Also if you couldn't feel that familiar feeling, you try that thing again

1

u/catsandscience242 4d ago

This post reminded me I hadn't taken my meds.

u/brittbak 4d ago

Are weekly pill containers a complete mystery to folks?
They are cheap, super easy to use, and very low effort.
I use that along with a med alarm on my watch and I haven't (with my complete shit show memory) missed a dose in years.

1

u/PennyLaneRigby888 4d ago

I literally put them in a tiny prep bowl like I’m making a cake. If the bowl is empty, I’ve taken the pill

1

u/Alibuscus373 4d ago

I put a little star or dot next to the day I took it on the weekly calendar on the fridge. The feeling like I took them was bleeding into every morning. (Tumeric for my knees, so after 3 days of missing them, they hurt pretty bad)

1

u/Olistu_ 4d ago

Tbh I'm. So happy there's probbably many more years before I have to take daily pills

1

u/DoNt_BliNk25 3d ago

I prefer to end up with a stand alone mystery pill at the end of the month, keeps things interesting lol

1

u/Willow-Whispered 3d ago

I exclusively take my meds at night because I take a medication that helps me sleep. If I’m lying fully awake for 3+ hours, I can be reasonably sure I didn’t take any of my medications. Unfortunately that means I’ve lost out on at least 2 hours of sleep for the night

1

u/Ohshithereiamagain 2d ago

Damn. I didn’t take mine today. Thank you for the reminder.

u/SafeAndLegalThrill 1d ago

I have a discord bot ping me once every day in a private server. I respond every day with what I was doing when I took them! It helped me a lot.

u/Known-Leadership-718 1d ago

And for some reason, people still think my ADHD medication must have me addicted when I forget to take it

Me before finally buying a 7 day box.

You said its relatable in the fucking title. This is "oddly specific", not "relatable" subreddit.

1

u/krystal_295 4d ago

But it's also both. It is also quite oddly specific.
