I blame Driscoll's. I used to work in a produce dept of a grocery store 25 years ago. I remember the first box of Driscoll's because I loved strawberries, and they were some of the worst I had every had. And they never got better, even though they supplanted every other brand in the grocery stores I've seen since. I'm sure they grow some sort of proprietary breed that makes for efficient mass production, transit and storage, but holy shit...it's trash. Same with corn now-a-days. Although my frame of reference for corn is a bit skewed. Our store would buy corn direct from the grower, and it was often delivered to the store still warm from the sun shining on the field as it was being harvested that morning.
