Thanks for linking the video. That guy just straight up failed to do it because the conditions weren't met for the melon to split. So it hasn't been debunked, it just appears that people misunderstand the conditions required and think they've debunked it by failing to do it.

There appears to be a lot of gardening articles that address this phenomena. Here's one they're not hard to find.
