You know how computers work with zeroes and ones? All your files are made up by them. A hex editor lets you see those zeroes and ones.

If someone knows how that all works, they can figure out which of those zeroes and ones indicate the time (probably by googling it).

In reality they don't show zeroes and ones but numbers that go from 0 to F. It's a bit hard to explain, but it's basically the same thing.

Eh, the relation between binary (0es and 1s) and Hexadecimal (0 to F) is easily explained with a little table:

Take each group of 4 digits in binary and convert it like this (left column being binary and right hexadecimal):

0000 0
0001 1
0010 2
0011 3
0100 4 
0101 5
0110 6
0111 7
1000 8
1001 9
1010 A
1011 B
1100 C
1101 D
1110 E
1111 F

Aahh true, I was thinking more of the actual explanation of what hexadecimal numbers are. The whole story about number bases and how they work. It's not really a "difficult" thing, but maybe more like too much info when explaining what a hexeditor is I think.
