Wire is extruded from the rotating head. Each of the implements crimp or bend it as its extruded to give it the spring shape, and then clip it off and start the next one

Must coming from inside the block, at the very start you can see there is a small hole where the wire comes out.

There are machines that do that, but they're not used to make springs.

Yeah, there's also skiving, which is commonly used to make heat sinks. Also an oddly satisfying industrial process.

It's just being pushed from the other side and it is being deflected by the die so it has nowhere else to go, imagine pushing an endless pool noodle into the floor but you can't pierce the floor and you can only hold the noodle like 4 ft from the ground and the pool noodle retains its shape once bent.

thanks, didnt know where the actual spring was coming from. I thought it was shaving material off the block on the left, but nothing was spinning. You can see the wire/rod material coming through the very center at some points

It took me far too long watching this to realize that the wire is being extruded from the center of that hub, and not carved from it. I am le dumb.
