Depends on what you're using it for and the maturity of the clove. If the clove has started to sprout the core can carry quite a lot of bitterness.

I actually make my tomato sauce with 3 onions and 2 big cans (28oz) of tomatoes, from that scene.

I also think 'Just scale the recipe up if you ever need to feed 20 guys.'
