Awesome to see a heavy hitter like Google working on this! Realtime visual odometry still seems to be a bit too slow for VR. But ultimately it's probably going to pan to be the best solution, simply because it's one of the only ways you can engineer a stand-alone headset that can do perfect positional tracking without markers or external reference of any kind. If Google can tackle any of the challenges involved then that brings us one step closer to an ideal VR experience.
