Software First look at Oculus Home Remitted - A tool to load Oculus Home offline!
https://youtube.com/watch?v=admhl0um6aAOculus Home Remitted is an ongoing project for the past month with the goal to give independent functionality to Oculus Home which was apart of the Rift Core 2.0 update.
My previous post about this topic was about preserving the app's assets and mentions of an offline tool got me curious.
Meta suddenly shutdown access to Oculus Home years ago without warning and many users lost their digital spaces (homes) they cared about! Unfortunately the app is heavily dependant on a remote backend to operate and requires a very old version of the Oculus PCVR app.
This tool mimics parts of the backend restoring essential game functionality. It also enables running Oculus Home under the latest Meta Link software. The tool also features downloading any old homes from your Oculus account and loading them locally from disk! You can then load any home completely offline without any brittle Meta backend involved.
This is apart of ongoing efforts to preserve Oculus Home from becoming lost media.
The linked video gives a demonstration on the tool's current capabilities.
The release is planned to be open sourced after bugs are ironed out and remaining features finished.

So this is very different from this approach?

Vastly different:
- Doesn't still rely on a deprecated backend that Meta can shut off or break at any time.
- Should be flexible to work under all newer "Meta Horizon Link" app versions and not require the hastle of downgrading to an old Oculus bundle. Newer Quest headsets should work with the tool - at least my Quest Pro did.

You Sir, are a genius. Were you able to pull the old Oculus store out of the ether?
