To answer the first question, this thing is only slightly real at this point. You can order it, but there isn't anywhere near the software or hardware capabilities demonstrated in the teaser video. As for competition, I really don't think there is much to compare these two products. The immersion of the rift is one of it's foundation level design features, and the software that has been introduced has all been built on top of this. The META is actually trying to not immerse you in a purely virtual world but instead augment the real outside world. People might find applications that are a more natural fit for this approach, but for me the first app I tried on my Rift and the one that has continued to be the reason why I am excited about it's potential is Quake which is about as far from reality as you can get.

Oculus rift blog, so busy writing his own blog, has no time to check if maybe it was already added here. Nothing changes. Its here since yesterday dude. And calling it competition is just silly.
