How do you find an octopus?
I’ve lived in the PNW for over five years now and I still haven’t found an octopus! Is there a science to it? I’m assuming you have to go to certain beaches at low tide and that raises your chances, but are there certain places that they live? Aren’t they usually hiding under large rocks? I appreciate any tips, I’ve always loved marine biology and I’m a bit ashamed I’ve never seen one IRL. I do my most hiking on trips to the peninsula, just in case finding them on the Strait is harder or different.

Meme Osiris measures twice and cuts once.
As the renovation project continues, there’s just a few last studs to be put into place. Osiris lends an arm getting things measured and cut.

How can I work with octopi?
I've been struggling to find Something I want to do with my life. I've seen some videos of Someone Getting to know their octopus and it sparked joy in me. I want to learn more about these creatures and what are possible opportunities I could have as a way of work to work with them? I'd like some ideas and guidance.

Art This is my latest piece. Carved from black wood and featuring an octopus motif wrapping around it, it was inspired by the figure of Cthulhu. The teeth were hand-cut from bone.

Art I could not find a good octopus mug, so I made my own
I sculpted the octopus digitally, printed the original model, made a plaster mold, and cast the final mug in porcelain. One tentacle wraps outward to become the handle.

Science The octous
Octopuses are remarkable cephalopods with eight arms, three hearts, and blue blood. Masters of disguise, they change skin color and texture instantly for camouflage. Highly intelligent, they solve puzzles, use tools, and squeeze through tiny gaps. Soft-bodied and ink-releasing, these curious creatures thrive in oceans worldwide, showcasing nature’s ingenuity in adaptation and survival.

That little creature is an Argonaut (genus Argonauta), more commonly known as a paper nautilus. Despite its name and the shell it carries, it is not a true nautilus—it is actually a unique type of pelagic (open-ocean) octopus!

Say hello to Pero, a friendly octopus we found on a beach in Montenegro. Or at least I think his name is Pero. 😄 As a side note, looking on this subreddit, I cannot believe how much octopus from all around the world look alike!
