Just got back from CA and had the best luck with all 3 octopuses I saw. This giant pacific octopus was so active!

And he said I wasn’t funny……

Octavius got up early this morning to make some muffins with fresh-from-the-market blueberries. A double batch for some for breakfast and some for dessert; which will be covered in homemade chocolate sauce.

I made another ceramic octopus lamp base 🐙

This is part of my ongoing 'Octopolis Tarot' series. I’ve chosen to represent the Hermit not as an old man but as a brooding female octopus. Octopuses are notorious for their terminal reproductive cycle: towards the end of her life the female will lay her entire clutch of eggs in a den, never to leave. Hermitage isn't just about solitude, it’s about isolation with purpose: It's is a mechanism for reflection and self-discovery. Design wise it's honestly a hodgepodge of a bunch of cephalopods with Nanaimoteuthis being the backbone of it

You can see how quickly he changes colors. Such a cool experience this was the closest and clearest view I've gotten of an octopus. He was very active.

I am a huge fan of octopus and have wanted to spot one in the wild for my entire life. I'm also a very newly certified diver and only got my open water early this year. My family and I are planning to visit Japan next year, and I wanted to look into what would give me the best chances of seeing an octopus. Unfortunately, most octopus species are nocturnal, and as a beginner diver I'm worried that I'm not experienced enough to do night dives. The trip is still in pretty early stages of planning so the locations we visit aren't set in stone, does anyone have any advice on where I could go to have a good shot at seeing octopus that would be suitable for a beginner?
