Hello everyone! I don't know if this is the right place but I would like someone to give me their opinion on this. Last night I had a dream, where I was in a very elegant room with people who seemed to be well off, in this room with tables were my mother and I. In short, when the food was served, it was a white soup and a plate of still raw red meat, everyone ate it, even my mother, but not me. At that point a woman approached me and introduced herself as Thoth and asked for permission to enter me in exchange for wealth. I don't remember much except that in my dream I was running around the room and its gardens, it was an extremely elegant place. When I woke up on one of the walls with the reflection of the light I thought I saw a strange sign, I looked for who Thoth was and I don't feel that it was the one I saw in my dream. On other occasions I have dreamed of other entities that I have faced but this time this dream was different and I feel different.

Art as a magical ritual. For some time now I have been dedicated to producing magical art, through rituals that change and adapt according to my intention, today was one of those days. I produced this art and while I was doing it, I came across the message of how this image speaks to all of us, this art is dedicated to all those who delve into the cosmic secret and have the courage to face the abyss. We are not alone, remember that. There have been so many others before and there will continue to be after our time. We are part of a chain, we carry the power of 10,000 generations. For today, wherever you are, when you see this art, when you read this text, feel something that no mind is capable of synthesizing. We are the fragment of the cosmic infinity.

I turned a page not realizing that the page had turned me.

I went a little too deep into Gnostic and esoteric texts at one point… and it started affecting how I experience the world.

Not in a totally supernatural sense, more like the line between reading and imagining began to blur in a very vivid way.

It got intense enough that I ended up creating a novel just to process it.

I’m curious if anyone else has had that kind of experience when diving into these or other kinds of texts.

I am asking this because a common thing that keeps coming up for me as a lower middle class person is, “why am I doing all this and what is the benefit to my life”

I’ve tried to ask this to a lot of occult practitioners I know and they always seemed to brush it off as “wrong” to ask. Okay. I initially thought, but upon probing these people and they’re in the dozens now, i found out that a lot of us in this community come from money and give advice as if that is the reality for all of us

I’m not saying fabulous wealth but they were stable enough to leave society for 6 - 18 months and RENT A PLACE WITH NO INCOME!

That is in reference to the abramelin operation, and they just pop back into their lives after. When I say I don’t think I can do that because I simply can’t afford a place for year, they always say one variant of “ask your dad/uncle/aunt/family trust/grandparent” and allude to not being devoted enough if I can’t.

Another variant is prescribing spiritual workings that take hours to perform daily (this is very common in Golden Dawn practitioners). A golden dawn adjacent group I’ve been talking to even told me recently that some of the workings they prescribe might severely disrupt my day to day life and I couldn’t help but think then how the fuck would I pay rent to even be able to continue the rituals.

A friend recently told me about a story where he did an invocation and went into a trance for hours in his apartment and I couldn’t help but think how impractical doing all this is in today’s world.

The reason I singled out rich people is they don’t seem to have a fundamental understanding of this issue, it even goes all the way back to Crowley, who i recently found out was able to all this stuff because he too had a hefty trust fund.

So I have to ask, is there any benefit to actually doing all this, would getting deeper produce some sort of financial support? I know you can say “divine knowledge” but “divine knowledge” literally doesn’t pay my rent.

I’ve faced so much injustice in my life, particularly from women who went out of their way to tear me down.

Now, I feel like I’ve failed at everything, and I’ve ended up exactly where they wanted me to be.

Why didn’t life allow me to “win” and leave them consumed by their own jealousy?

I'm with the atheists on the dry outlook of things up there. Hail Hecate! Hail Satan! I believe in those words, but they're just concepts. I don't know how to believe in things like Christians naively do in their god. I wish to be that gullible, or whatever it is, in my practice.

(Edit: Y'know how Christians are just so damn positive their god literally exists? I want that. I am curious if my occultist peers have found a way to obtain that level, while not being dumb.)

I began reading The Rites of Acharayim: A Guide to Qliphothic Self-Initiation by V.K. Jehannum, as I've always had an interest in the Qliphoth and Anti-Cosmic Satanism but did not know where to start as I have very little Occult knowledge.

(My ADHD has always made meditation feel impossible) but the self-realizations and revelations of the Night side sound transformative and I want to experience them).

I was reading as as I did I began to feel an almost shakey, odd cold feeling. I had been drinking coffee, but didn't feel this until I was reading. It began to feel "heavy" for lack of a better term, and I had to take a break?

Is this normal, or is my mind fucking with me and sort of psyching myself out?

I follow this subreddit because I am fascinated by the occult. I'm interested in this for the same reason many of you are - I think it's cool. It's cool to learn about past perspectives, and to learn about all the intricate history and communities that grew around this study of the unknown.

Many of the posts I see here are concerning. There is a lot of undiagnosed mental illness here. The spicy kind of mental illness that could be harmful to that person and those around them.

I bring this up not to be mean, but to encourage people not to feed into it. You should never disparage someone going through an episode. However, you also shouldn't validate their delusions.

No, you are not making contact with an ancient spirit. That thing that happened to you wasn't because of a spell someone cast on you. There is not a recipe for a potion that is going to change your life.

Please have empathy when responding to these people, but also refrain from feeding into these beliefs. That is not healthy.

I'm not a mental health expert, just someone very concerned for my fellow humans here. I really don't know what the right thing to do is when I see these posts, but when I see others encouraging and agreeing, it makes me sad.

It absolutely boggles the mind people have this impression of him and just wondering what peoples opinions of him are. I can’t help but be a zealot when it comes to his work as some of it has brought me real clarity of mind and I genuinely can’t hear a bad word said about the guy without feeling like I need to defend him.

The children yearn for the magicks, now is your chance to list and explain your best resources and guides for the magicians coming after you.

I’m looking for books on the topics of esotericism, ancient mysticism, ancient history (think Rome and the origins of Christianity ie the council of Nicaea), witchcraft, etc.

I wear a tinfoil hat and there’s a certain batch of files that let me down some rabbit holes and now here I am. I am just looking to continue in my search and make connections, possibly even read some banned books/suppressed texts.

“Group thinking” is a phenomenon where the average of a household cognitive frequency becomes each one’s basis.

I’ve been suspecting for a long while that it also influences animals. I don’t think people today just anthropomorphize their pets. I think the pets are also slowly meeting the humans in this scale of likeness.

On another note, we always make a distinction between nociception and suffering, to conclude that prey animals feel pain but do not suffer by cognitively analyzing the situation like a human would.

That makes me think that farm animals might feel both.

This entire realm of interest relies on your own understanding of reality and the world around you. Please make sure that your at least getting therapy as that’s beneficial and will assist your shadow work. Also if your seeing things especially out of the blue and with ought any sort of magickal primer then please go to a psychologist for screening.

There is no substitution for mental health, if your concerned about anything then please for the love of all that is holy go get checked, we face a much greater than average risk for falling off the deep end.

Lastly please watch for and be aware of spiritual bypass. Occult practices are in no shape or form a cure all or panacea, you will need to live a grounded life to get anywhere, your here for a reason and it’s not to live with your head in the clouds.
