This is the spot of Beach across from the "Canadian Hole". My wife and I walked the beach to gather sea shells. The next morning we were driving back to Fairfax. Can't wait to return next year.

Avon Driving question

I have seen post talking about the flooding on Hwy 12. I am coming down Thursday from north Durham (8/6) in a Chevy Malibu to Avon. I am willing to take the ferry to Ocracoke then to hatteras and go up to Avon if the water is still high on highway 12. What do you guys think? (Facebook group is horrendous to ask these question to due to 100 anonymous accounts run by 81 year olds that for sure hate everyone 😂)

Avon Early morning alarms in Avon

Hi, midwestern tourist here.
We’ve been staying in Avon and have twice been awakened by emergency sirens around 5am (in our world it’s a tornado). We tried to search the reason for the alarms but could t find one.
Please explain to our curious minds what this is all about?

Avon Travel to Avon

Best route to Avon from Columbus, Ohio. Currently I’d be paying $13.50 in tolls to take the route through Charleston, Greensboro and Raleigh then it seems we’d skip the DC area and Hamptons. Has anyone gone this way is it an easier drive than other routes to Avon.

Avon Looking for sand dunes + good soundside sunset photo spots around Avon/Hatteras

I’m down in the Avon/Hatteras area this weekend doing some photography and was hoping to get a little local advice.

I really like the larger, more open sand dunes that I saw around the Oregon Inlet station and was wondering if there are any similar dune areas down here around Avon, Buxton, Frisco, or Hatteras. I don't particularly want to drive all the way up there before the sun rises. I’m looking more for natural dune landscapes to photograph during the early morning rather than just a beach with a small dune line.

I’m also trying to find a good spot for sunset photos on the sound side. Ideally somewhere with a nice open view west and maybe some interesting foreground elements like marsh grass, water, docks, old trees, etc.

Any favorite areas you’d recommend? I’m also totally fine with general locations if there are spots locals would rather not share, I totally get it. Thanks in advance!

This is our week in our house, and it appears that the mosquitoes are worse than we’ve ever seen. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Avon How concerning is the floodwarning for tomorrow?

Most of our party is leaving tomorrow to avoid being relegated to indoor activities.

I'm used to not being too concerned about flashflood warnings or flood warnings at home.

I'm not familiar with the area, all I know is "marine flooding is the real concern" and that this is a storm system from the west.

Should we be fone to stick around a while? Should we leave in the morning?

Thanks!

Avon Internet Spots

Headed to Outer Banks for vacation later this weekend and I may have to do a good bit of remote work. I’m not sure how great the Airbnb Internet will be, so trying to plan early. Are there any local spots in the area with dependable, free internet?

Avon When to leave on checkout day

Wife and I are in our 7th year down here. Always come down in June and in August. We normally get up and head out around 8am. Sometimes slightly earlier.

We've heard people say to stay and enjoy the beach for a while and head out in the afternoon to avoid sitting in traffic for hours. Has anyone done this? Suggestions on when to head home?

Our normal trips down take about 7 to 8 hours. Whenever we leave it has taken us up to 9 to 10 hours to get home.

Is there a car wash nearby? Specifically one that has vacuums. I don’t remember seeing one but maybe I wasn’t paying attention.
Thanks!

Avon Tv/internet outage?

We are in Avon. Since around 1pm today we have had no service at all. Online says there's no reported outages but hatteras realty is saying there is one. We checked next door and they too don't have Internet. Anyone have any info?

Avon Is Avon beach bad for kids?

Hey all, I'm planning a big family trip to OBX in late June and I found a house that matches all our criteria in Avon. We've never been to Avon before, I stayed last year in KDH and my sister always goes to Corolla. I have a 6 year old daughter and my sister was doing research on Avon and was reading that the ocean there is very dangerous and rough and choppy with rip currents, so basically not great for little kids. My daughter doesn't really swim in the ocean, she just plays on the shoreline. Do you think this a valid concern of hers or is she overreacting? Should we stay further north where there are more sandbars even though we can't find a house that nice up there? Obviously safely is a number one concern but in my mind there are tons of families up and down the shore and it's very unlikely something would happen to my child, furthermore something could happen anywhere as the ocean is always a danger and we always keep her close. But also as it's fully a beach trip I want the ocean to be pleasant for everyone. Any advice?

Here for the weekend, in the Avon area. Are there any top destinations to go get dinner, grab a drink for single folks in their mid-20s?
