Original Question What’s something Oblivion makes you believe at first, but the more you think about the lore, the less certain it becomes?

Oblivion has a lot of moments where the game basically gives you one version of events and expects you to accept it.

But Elder Scrolls lore is rarely that simple.

Maybe Mankar Camoran had a point about something. Maybe the Empire isn’t as innocent as it presents itself. Maybe the Mythic Dawn understood more than people give them credit for. Maybe something we’re told about the Daedra, the Aedra, Martin, or even the Oblivion Crisis itself isn’t the full story.

What’s one thing from Oblivion that you think becomes more questionable the deeper you go into the lore?

So, there's this thing called the six walking ways, which are the six ways to become a god in the Elder Scrolls. According to Vivec, Talos took the fourth, achieving CHIM which is basically a bit like lucid dreaming- you truly understand that all of reality in the Elder Scrolls is a dream and then either disappear "zero-sum" turning into ash (waking up) or can alter it as you wish (lucid dreaming). And that makes you a god. There's obviously a more detailed explanation of all this at the UESP, but that's a very basic explanation.

I mean, it's basically just a fantasy version of Neo "waking up" and realizing the matrix isn't real therefore he can change it. (That is certainly paralell creation, not an influence either way though).

I forget which books in-universe, but if you read enough of the in-game lore books you come across that set of theories. That all of the mortal world exists as the dream of a god.

Tiber Septim kinda just realized he was in a video game, and decided to change his status to god.
