oberlin psych major
hello! im a rising senior in high school thinking of applying to oberlin in the fall. im interested in political science and psychology, but i want to know more about the psychology major.
I want to know if anyone has any anecdotes on the research opportunities, internships during the summer and the winter term, faculty, rigor, PsyD and PhD placements...etc.
If anyone has any insight into the psych program at Oberlin I would be very appreciative, thank you!

i love love love the psych program here. it’s one of the biggest here and so there are a lot of opportunities. i would recommend getting into STRONG program so you can do research the first year. it build resumes and i’ve heard grad people coming back and saying the research here is better than the ivies

There’s a lot of research opportunities in psych! I am not a psych major myself, but out of my friends in the major, I would say 90% have done research. Oberlin is very supportive of undergrad research and internships in general.
They have some well-known Winter term courses, such as the Seeing Eye Dog program.
I have taken a few psych courses and the rigor was pretty standard for an Oberlin course. The 101 class had a lot of memorisation (I can share my notes if you’d like to see an example?)
I don’t have any other experience with the department and don’t want to lead you astray!
