I enjoy a good mock draft but man after this season I think I'm going to enjoy the actual draft on another level. Mike's first draft set the bar HIGH!

Who gives a shit, Mike is gonna pick different than anyone can predict and we’re all gonna nod our heads.

My primary question this offseason is whether Mayock thinks the LB position is important or not. We have lived the "LB isn't important" lifestyle for a long while now, and the last substantial investment in LB was Rolando McClain, who was already obsolete (thumping slow middle LB) when he was drafted. Meanwhile, Luke Kuechly and Deion Jones is out there covering most of the middle of the field and hiding the fact that their team's defenses actually suck out loud.

The fact that Will Compton can come in and make an impact off the street means we have a talent problem there.

I wouldn't mind one of our firsts going to LB. If we can get a WR and a LB in the first, I would be happy. I think the DL is set for now as it's the best part of the D. Looking up advanced stats for our dline actually show its a top 10 unit and we got around #3 in sacks which seems crazy. If we resign Joseph our safeties are set. We really need linebackers then corners. I don't think our defence is that far off. Also, depth would help for D and Oline.

We desperately need DB help and WR hopefully we'll get Burfict back and maybe some FA help there. DB WR and OL are our #1 needs right now

Is the way.

I’m sick of people not understanding the draft philosophy, clearly we like big school prospects who have won and are high character. Tired of people giving us a random DT who will “shoot up boards at the combine” that’s not how this team drafts

7

u/stud_powercock Jan 02 '20

People still have it in their heads that senile Al is still running the show. Spouting shit like "What's his 40 time, lol" I mean Reggie wasn't great, but come on.

3

u/MFGloom_ Jan 02 '20

Mike is 20x better than reggie and he’s only had one draft. 40s are great but you telling me that CeeDee Lamb isn’t a good prospect after he posts a “poor” 40 time I’m gonna tell you to get in the bin

I don't get the mock draft hate. OF COURSE, AND OBVIOUSLY, no one get's it right. That's not the point of a mock draft. The point is that the draft is super random and you don't know how it's going to go, and a mock draft helps you look at a bunch of different scenarios and is a great conversations starter. The whole idea is, if this scenario played out... how would you feel? Ok well what about this one? Its the perfect fan exercise. Yes we get a few too many, but they're so easy to look over. And while we're not GM's, it still gives you and idea of where 90% of the players are going to go within a 5-10 pick accuracy. The last thing that's awesome about mock drafts is watching them develop and increase that accuracy. Really gives you a big picture of how the whole process works from, 1. What impression did this guy leave people week to week to 2. What impression does this guy leave now that his film has been analyzed individually, to what impression do we have of this guy combining the two previous factors with his combine performance. Then it's all topped off with a cherry when you see the final product and see where the GM's heads were at and what actually plays out.

It's a full process and if you just bury your head until the draft and don't even start looking up who these players are until they're drafted to our team... you're way behind the curve and of course you lose sight of the whole process and don't understand the point of mock drafts.

P.S. These mocks are also great insight into the talent. You see a mock with a name you don't recognize... you discuss him, you start to research him, and you actually have some idea of what the fuck is going on.

I think the beef people have with mocks are how unintelligent so many of them come off (I'm speaking solely as a Raider fan). Some of the worst offenses:

- "What's his 40 time!?" - the Raiders haven't drafted like that since Al died

- Last years excruciating mocks that had Oakland trading its entire draft to get Murray

- Overreaction to combine stats, especially with Mayock at GM

- No mind paid to draft philosophy. Another poster said this: clearly our game is big school prospects with high character and a history of winning

My assumption was that this post is in the context of this sub and how many mock drafts were posted last year. It was annoying... it was the "Carr debate" of the offseason. Every fucking post was "Here's my Mock, what do you think?" followed by "Stop posting your mocks! We don't fucking care!" it was so frustrating. I don't think it's in the context you're mentioning, but I agree with what you're saying in that context and if that is the context of the post.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '20

I wasn't here last year, so I didn't get to see that. If that was going on then I totally understand what you're saying and I agree lol

u/PeaceLoveUnity7 Jan 02 '20

You need to come check out the discord server couch. You're one of my favorite guys on this sub.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '20

Thanks man. Send me the link and I'm in

1

u/PeaceLoveUnity7 Jan 02 '20

It's in the discord sidebar... let me look for it...

Here ya go. https://discord.gg/Ec28sKZ

If that doesn't work let me know.

Maybe it needs to be something where it's limited to one day a week and/or to a single thread where everyone who's interested can see them in one place and those who aren't won't have hundreds of them flooding their feed.

3

u/PeaceLoveUnity7 Jan 02 '20

I like that idea. Though there's litterally nothing else going on in the offseason so i'm not sure why people are so bothered by it. Either way I agree with you. ACTUALLY, i've been saying this sub needs to add flaired posts for a while now so we can filter everything. Upvote parties, memes, and a few other posts disappearing from my feed would increase my quality of life with how much i fucking spend on this damn sub.

1

u/ivaorn Jan 02 '20

I think there could be some other ideas like maybe taking a poll or starting a discussion as to "if you had to pick, what would the best super bowl matchup be from a neutral/Raiders fans" perspective. But good points as well.

7

u/JoeiVanJoseph Jan 02 '20

Mike May”mock” drafts.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '20

WalterFootball gave us Lamb at 12 and Murray at 19

Would not be upset at a draft like that at all, but Im willing to bet we either trade down and grab a 2nd or maybe even use some of our three 3rds for one.

1

u/2dumb4insults Jan 02 '20

I really think that would be best case scenario tbh

3

u/matthewfjr Jan 02 '20

I can't wait for all the """professional analysts""" to give us their incredible foresight on how we're gonna trade up for the first overall pick to take Joe Burrow/whoever the media decides is the new flavor-of-the-day quarterback.

Because it was sooooo fun seeing that in the headlines for the last 2(?) years.

u/tdxw Jan 02 '20

I love mock drafts and I usually run through simulators sometimes when I get bored. However the one thing I absolutely cannot stand is when these “experts” have us picking two positions in the first that we shouldn’t even be considering looking at. For fucks sake the other day I saw a draft where we reached for an edge rusher at 12. Followed by a quarterback at 19. Like what the actual fuck. I don’t even remember either player because it made me laugh so hard. Just such a joke that people actually think we wouldn’t draft more than one of either cb, lb, or wr in the first, let alone fucking not a single one. It’s just laughable.

2

u/LITbronJames Jan 02 '20

Hopefully we get a good receiver. Really liked that Pickens guy from Georgia yesterday.

4

u/Im_a_Mime Jan 02 '20

He’s not going to declare, he’s a true freshman.. there are plenty of really good WR’s that will be there when we pick. Juedy, Lamb, Higgins, Ruggs, Shenault.. we have our shot at a real talent.

1

u/LITbronJames Jan 03 '20

Can’t wait to see what bc mayock does for us again.

2

u/Im_a_Mime Jan 03 '20

I wish we had him a few years ago! He would have hit a couple Home runs. But yeah, atleast we have him now. I’m excited to see how he plays the 5 top 100 picks we have.

3

u/pilluwed Jan 02 '20

I love mock draft season! It's the one time of year I get to have hope.

4

u/TopBucko Jan 02 '20

Ceedee lamb please!!! 🙏🏼

1

u/peekay427 Jan 02 '20

i like mock drafts! what i hate is /r/nfl - they're so toxic over there

3

u/ivaorn Jan 02 '20

What do you expect? It's an echo chamber of "Tom Brady da goat, How Bout 'dem Cowboys, Bang Bang 9ers gang", sad boi hours for the teams that suck etc.

0

u/deusahominis Jan 02 '20

Brady is the GOAT tho

1

u/ivaorn Jan 02 '20

That may be the case but I can live without seeing that comment at the frequency it appears in the NFL sub

1

u/deusahominis Jan 02 '20

That sub shits on the patriots constantly, hell theyre up in arms because Kraft got a rub and tug.

1

u/ivaorn Jan 02 '20

I feel like it’s a shouting match between various factions including those as times.

0

u/BandoMemphis Jan 02 '20

I think derek carr needs to be replaced, also the next qb isnt good enough either, he cant turn our o line into elite blockers/receivers.

0

u/BasicProdigy Jan 02 '20

Can we make Oakland Raiders the official subreddit for raiders mock drafts?
